ASP was established in 1977, initially as an importer of computer equipment, but we were soon designing products to sell under our own name, and undertaking design work for others. ASP's first barcode product, the Barcode Interface, was released in 1985. The BCI had a printer interface, and decoded barcodes as well as printing barcode labels when data was sent back fro
m the host computer. The BCI set the tone for the innovative range of products to come: portable barcode readers that could also function as fixed readers, multiple interface readers, networked production tracking and time and attendance terminals, and a range of contact, CCD and laser scanners. The company uses its supply, design, programming and fabrication skills to realise the potential of technologies including Barcode, RFID, Smartcard, Magnetic Stripe, MICR, OCR, iButton, Web, Ethernet, RF Wireless, Bluetooth, GPRS and GSM Data Transfer. Hardware products, designed and built in Australia include Portable Barcode Readers, Ethernet Terminals, and Time and Attendance Terminals. ASP has developed packaged Software Solutions for Stocktake, Warehouse, Inventory Management (SWIM), Time and Attendance, Asset Tracking, Barcode Label Printing, Rapid Radio Frequency Network Development, and GSM Data Transfer. Custom application development has included the Australian Bureau of Statistics Document Flow Control System for the 2006, 2011. 2016 and 2021 censuses, City of Melbourne parking meter coin collection tracking throughout the city of Melbourne, Australia wide barcode system used by Telstra Payphones to track coin collections from payphones, the RF seed tracking systems for Ball Australia and Boomaroo (Australia's largest wholesale nursery), the barcode scanning section of the Shell iTouch kiosks. There are numerous other innovative projects, plus our own system solutions, that establish our capabilities. Ongoing technology partnerships include Microfocus (the pre-eminent supplier of file tracking systems to Government), and Pentana (the pre-eminent supplier of management systems to the motor industry). The company's supply and distribution arrangements include companies such as Denso, Star Micronics (Japan), Datamax, Intermec (USA), and several Taiwanese OEM companies.
