Shoalhaven City Council it doesn’t feel like community engagement is important when you turn off commenting on all of your posts
We know there are questions about Council's proposed land sales strategy and we’ve seen some misinformation circulating in the community.
Many of the concerns relate to community land, which is land that cannot be sold without extensive consultation and approvals.
Here’s the facts:
📍There are 25 properties proposed for sale, classified as: 19 Operational, 5 Community Land, 1 Unformed Road.
📍Community Land needs to be reclassified to Operational to be sold. This is a 10-step process involving community engagement and Ministerial approval and can take 2 years to complete.
📍If land is reclassified, no one will be asked to vacate without finding suitable alternative location.
📍The intention is to unlock land in areas for housing and for economic investment - particularly in the Nowra and Ulladulla CBDs.
📍We absolutely value the work of community groups and not-for-profit organisations.
📍Council currently leases 246 buildings. And 160 of those are leased to not-for-profit organisations and rent subsidised by around $1.9M a year. Additionally, there’s substantial ongoing building maintenance and compliance costs. Reducing this expense improves Council’s financial bottom line.
