Struggling to keep up with all the Instagram changes? ✋🏼
No stress, we've got you covered. These are 6 updates you need to know:

1) New home feeds - there's 3 of them! Tap onto the Instagram icon on your home feed and you'll see a dropdown menu with Favourites and Following. This was added to bring back the OG days of showing followers content in a chronological timeline. Yay! But here's the twist - the Favourites feed is your special selection of up to 50 accounts that you want instagram to prioritise. Essentially, it's the VIP lounge of instagram. Businesses on these feeds are given golden priority for their content.

2) Story Highlights - 24hours not enough time? No problem - just add your stories to your bio as a highlight. Add as many stories as you like and let your followers see your story again, and again, and again!

3) Content types - Have you explored all the different content types? Reels, Post, Carousel, Story, Story Highlights, Lives and Guides. Have a play around with these & mix up your profile display to rank higher in instagram's algorithm. Variety is favourable!

4) Explore Page - speaking of exploring, the Explore page is new and improved. It shows you a variety of "Suggested Content" that it thinks you'll enjoy based on your activity and interactions with other user's content (& P.S it's increasing Suggested Content for Reels).

5) Reels - in case we haven't mentioned this enough, Reels are particularly favourable by the algorithm (I wonder if TikTok has anything to do with this...) Either way, businesses that get onboard with reels are streets ahead. Second step is knowing how to create video content that's engaging, but that's for another day!

6) Bio - your business bio has so many features. It can show your business Category and help your customers easily find what they're looking for in the app. It also offers a variety of Action Button options - like online Bookings & Order or Lead Generation forms. Optimise your bio and add more info for your customers to find & contact you!

Often we are so focused on getting new customers, we forget about our existing customers. The probability of selling to an existing customer is 65% compared to only 10-15% for a new customer.

Customer loyalty and retention is the biggest ambassador for your business - it signals value, quality and great customer service to other customers.

In your marketing strategy, focus on 2 things:
1) Repairing holes in your sales funnel where you typically lose customers, to increase your chances of repeated service and loyalty.
2) Learning your customers' definition of a successful experience and aiming to achieve this with your service / products.

Remember, without your existing customers you wouldn't have any business! 🙏
Make them feel appreciated and special.

Quick wins are great, but in the big picture, sustainable growth will gain you more, and this takes time.

Making sure your tactics are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant & time-bound) within your long term marketing strategy is key!

What's the difference between strategy and tactics?

In short, your Strategy is your big plan - the ultimate goal your business is trying to achieve.
Your Tactics are the specifics of how you're going to get there. These include your marketing collaterals, media types and other actions.

There used to be a hair product ad years ago with this slogan, but it turns out it's also great business advice: "It won't happen overnight, but it will happen!"
Make this your morning mantra on the days when your engagement levels are down, your posts likes are low and your marketing efforts seem futile.

Remember to keep persevering! Stick to your marketing strategy, and adjust your tactics based on your insights or changing market needs if need be. The results will come in time!

You only get to make a ☝🏼first impression, once.

In that first 7 seconds of meeting someone, our brains make a thousand computations which determine whether that person is likeable, trustworthy and competent.

That decision usually comes from a mixture of your personality, body language, and communication skills (if not, then that person already has an opinion of you before you've even met)

However, these are 4 tips to better connect with someone in the first 7 seconds:

1. Prepare - failing to do so, is preparing to fail!
Before meeting someone do your research first. Check out their social media profiles, research their company and its competitors, and inform yourself of any recent industry news or updates.
The more informed and prepared you are, the more confident you'll feel when meeting with someone.

2. A Smile goes a long way!
Studies show that a person is more likeable and trustworthy when they smile. Would you want to talk to a grouchy person? Build rapport from the get go and just be friendly and smile.

3. Keep eye contact
Body language is everything. Think about any conversation you've ever had - did you connect with someone who looked at their shoes, or around the room, while talking to you? Eye contact shows your interest & engagement in the conversation, and makes you more likeable to that person.

Keeping eye contact can be daunting though (especially if you're shy by nature) - so here's a little trick: Practise talking while staring at yourself in a mirror, and get familiar with that feeling. It helps!

4. Show empathy
This is completely different to emotion. You don't need to be overly emotional when you converse with someone (excessively start laughing, or become over-joyed, or start crying if they tell you bad news...awkward). Instead show empathy - be understanding, be respectful, show your appreciation for the conversation by thanking them for their time to meet with you.

Ultimately, don't try so hard to be likeable - just be yourself and you'll feel natural and comfortable in the conversation.
