Are your business computers protected against theft?

One of the most effective ways to secure your business data is to enable BitLocker, Microsoftโ€™s built-in disk encryption feature.

BitLocker helps protect your business data if a computer is ever lost, stolen, or accessed without permission.

Its quite common nowadays for BitLocker to be auto-enabled on Windows 11 computers from the factory, but don't just assume. And for most people, they're not aware of the implications of not knowing their 48-digit recovery key.

If you're unsure;

โ€ข Whether BitLocker is enabled on your business computers.
โ€ข If your older computers are BitLocker compatible.
โ€ข The location of recovery keys for existing BitLocker enabled computers.

I can assist with all of the above, ensuring your computers are fully protected, and that your recovery keys are securely backed up.

Just a quick post to announce that I am winding down the home user support side of the business to focus solely on providing small business IT support.

As a one man operation, it's always been a challenge juggling home and small business workloads, and while I really appreciate all the support and work sent my way, it's ultimately become unsustainable for me to continue accommodating both simultaneously.

I will be posting more on this in the coming days, but rest assured I have been in contact with another IT provider who is happy for me to refer home users to.

Just letting you all know that I am back from leave ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's been a hectic couple of days to say the least. Between back to back onsite appointments, returning many calls, emails and text messages, I've barely had time to stop and ponder life's mysteries ๐Ÿค”

This week I'm fairly well booked solid, and I'm now taking onsite appointments for next week.

Please note, I generally don't answer the phone when I'm onsite, so if you do call and I don't answer, please leave a message and I'll do my best to respond asap.

With Christmas fast approaching, I thought I better let you all know my desired schedule over the Christmas period ๐Ÿ˜

As I donโ€™t take allocated time off during the year, I have decided to officially pull up stumps on Friday the 19th of December, and will return bright-eyed and bushy tailed on January 12th 2026.

Next week, I also have some unavailable days planned due to family commitments, which will include Monday, and Tuesday, and possibly Friday.

It's been a busy, action packed year, and I appreciate all the local support received throughout the year. I wish everyone an amazing Christmas, and a fulfilling new year.

Just a couple of things real quick whilst I'm logged in ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿ”ด Like many small business owners, I don't answer calls at 6:30am in the morning,10pm at night, or on weekends. My operating hours are 9am-5pm, Mon-Fri. And, while I don't mind people leaving a message outside of those hours, please just be aware that I won't respond outside of business hours.

๐Ÿ”ด I do get quite busy at times and generally don't answer calls when I'm onsite with a client, or elbow deep into a difficult repair. It's always best to leave a voicemail when you call, else it's likely I won't call you back.

๐Ÿ”ด Being a one man show with many clients, it may take me a day or so to call you back at times, particularly if I'm doing a lot of running around. I always try my best to get back to everyone as soon as I can.

๐Ÿ”ด I don't log into Facebook very often, usually only 2-3 times a week. If you have an urgent request, please read the above and either send me a text message, or call.

I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

Another successful (though not so pretty) Hard Drive repair๐Ÿ‘

The owner had previously attempted a repair on the USB-mini port after it was damaged, but unfortunately this only made things worse.

With tweezers in hand and a little mucking around under the microscope, I ended up bypassing the damaged port all together, soldering a USB-A cable's wires directly to the pads on the PCB.

She's not pretty, but at the end of the day, data was retrieved and that's all that matters ๐Ÿ˜

Still running Windows 10?

Microsoft recently announced that users still running Windows 10 past October 14th may opt into an extended updates program, this program extends security updates for another 12 months.

There's a few conditions that must be met, and you can become eligible by backing up your PC settings to OneDrive, cashing in some Microsoft rewards points, or paying a one time fee. Honestly the easiest method is backing up your settings to OneDrive, though if you don't like the sound of that, I do have a workaround.

If that all makes NO sense to you, but you'd still like to receive security updates on your Windows 10 computer, please feel free to contact me to schedule an onsite appointment, and I'll get you sorted out.

Please remember, outside of the extended updates program, Windows 10 will stop receiving updates on October 14th. This will pose a security problem as we move forward.

If you're thinking of updating your iPhone to iOS 26, I'd probably hold off for now, it's absolutely terrible IMO.

I love a good update as much as the next person, but OMG this update is a disaster. Not only does it look awful, I'm getting some serious early Windows Vista vibes from it.

My advice for now is to save your sanity and stick to iOS 18.

Just my personal opinion of course, your mileage may vary.

Let me know your thoughts.
