Which antivirus should I use?

I am often asked by clients about which antivirus program they should be using. My answer is almost always to use the one that is built into the operating system, which is available for free.

Windows 10 and macOS include very good antivirus and security software that is updated with the operating system. For most people, no other third party application is required.

NBN customers who still want a home phone need to be aware that in general they will need to use the modem that is provided by their phone supplier (ie if you want a Telstra phone line with a local phone number you will need to use a Telstra modem).
This is because providers like Telstra will not provide the settings needed to configure the phone component of the modem. Telstra modems are preconfigured to work with Telstra phone lines only.
To get around this limitation I have successfully used a third-party voice over IP (VoIP) provider, porting (transferring) my local phone number to the VoIP provider. If you call me on 02 6573 3215, you will be calling my VoIP system. I can make and receive calls from my mobile but they appear to be coming from my Singleton number.

Residents of The Retreat can look forward to their NBN Fixed Wireless service in the next few months. It appears that the NBN tower has been erected, east of Bridgman Road just past the 100km speed limit sign. The NBN antennae are still to be installed but once this is complete you should be able to get this service, which has one of the highest satisfaction rates of all the NBN technologies. Residents further along Bridgman Road may also benefit if they have clear line of sight out to about 14km from the tower.
