As of last year 2025 saw many people upgrading their computers early before the end of Windows 10. Prices for upgrades where reasonably priced but unfortunately since late November 2025 prices for hard drives & memory basically anything with a chip on it have skyrocketed. 32Gb Memory once $100 now $300 plus and hard drives have suffered the same fate. In fact it's better to look at replacing your old computer with a new which may work out cheaper in the long run. Your data can be transferred to your new computer but programs need to be reloaded and will not always be compatible with Windows 11, for any assistance if not sure I'm happy to answer your question

Well Windows 10 support has finished as of the 14th October. I have had many PC towers brought to me for updates and if possible upgrades. Any computer with a Generation processor 3 or less should upgrade their motherboard processor and memory and possibly the hard drive if they wish to have problem free computing. Also you have to back up your data not me. I and other PC people are not responsible for your backups. We will always advise you on having a backup in place. Computer games you will have to reinstall them yourselves not me.
A 3rd Generation computer means that it is approximately 11 years old. The internal hardware will be slow compared to the new hardware. By just installing new operating system on a old computer is a waste of time and money in the long run. I no longer sell refurbished computers older than 4 years for that reason.
Microsoft also are trying to get you to subscribe to further support for their software. Apple provide theirs for free.(I'm not a Apple supporter but I don't support their actions)
The latest version of Windows 11 is 25H2 and if you have a computer that isn't running it you will have reinstall Windows operating system from online and you possibly may loose all your current information and software in doing so. Nice one NOT.

Dust dust and more dust the bain of computer fans clogs them up and overheats the processor slowing the computer down.In some cases even burning out the mainboard. Cannot overemphisize the importance of keeping a clean space around your computer so it breathes with a better air flow. Spoof Sextortion Emails - what are they and what are they tryong to do. Sextortion scams are when an attacker sends emails to people stating that their computer is hacked and that the attackers have been recording the screen and we**am as the user visits adult sites. The scammers then blackmail the recipients by stating they will release the videos if they do not receive a payment in bitcoins. It is important for users to learn about these new scams as they have been very successful in scaring recipients into making payments. Therefore, if you receive an email like this, do not freak out and simply delete the email and then perform a thorough scan of your computer using an antivirus program.

Computer slowing down? How old is the computer?
If you're still running Windows 7 it's still a reliable operating system but Home Premium is not getting much support from Microsoft whereas Windows 7 Professional still is. The Home Premium computers I'm seeing of late are running slow and in all honesty need upgrading to a newer operating system if possible. Another issue with older computers is the hard drives are getting slow because of age n useage. Replacing with a new drive can bring your computer alive for a bit longer. A slow computer may be a sign of something more worrying around so best to get a slow computer checked out

With the colder months now upon us may start noticing the internal fans in your PC are a bit noisier. This is due to the dust build up inside the bearings to warm up. Once warmed up the noise should disappear. However if it doesn't it may mean it's time to replace the problematic fan as it may seize up causing further damage. Most common noisy fan is inside the power supply unit (PSU) itself in PC's, these units can catch fire if left unattended. PSU are not overly priced but the damage they may cause when they fail can be. Remember dust is your biggest problem and can cause the biggest pricing headaches if not seen too. Check with your friendly local IT Professional it just may need a good clean-out internally💻🙂

Seeing a lot of damaged laptop screens lately mainly from students. It's not because they are clumsy most of the time they are damaged by others. Having a good carry case is very important for protection, don't go for the tight hugging type of case as the power supply won't fit comfortably and don't make it too large as that can also hinder protection. One of the best bag maker is Targus not cheap but made especially for laptops. Putting a laptop into a school bag is also not safe as the laptop can be damaged by large books pressing up against the back of the screen and also it's a weight issue for the student.
