The government's forthcoming climate-related reporting requirements are set to reshape Australian business practices.

Here's what these companies will most likely need to report on:

1️⃣ The processes they use to monitor and control sustainability-related risks and opportunities.

We are excited to announce that NetNada has been accepted as a forum member of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

Leading market players, regulators, and governments already recognise TNFD as a key initiative to tackle this challenge, including the G7 Finance Ministers, G20 Environment Ministers, the Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for Greening the Financial System (NGFS).

With our client's support, we look to encourage corporates and financial institutions to embrace the importance of reporting and acting on evolving nature-related risks, and in turn, move to adopt the TNFD framework.

The challenges we look to solve demand that our mission be ambitious.

There has been a lot of made of the recent consultation paper released by the Australian Treasury and its impact on the Australian sustainability landscape.

But what exactly are the implications coming out of parliament and when can we expect to see them implemented? This excerpt from the paper clearly states the government's intentions.

“The Government has committed to ensuring large businesses and financial institutions provide Australians and investors with greater transparency and accountability when it comes to their climate-related plans, financial risks, and opportunities.

As part of this commitment, the Government will introduce standardised, internationally-aligned reporting requirements for businesses to make disclosures regarding governance, strategy, risk management, targets and metrics – including greenhouse gasses.”

In regards to timing, a phased-in approach will be implemented by company size, here's what we know so far:

🌱 2024-2025: Larger entities, with over 500 employees, revenues exceeding $500 million, and assets over $1 billion, will commence compliance with the new rules.

🌱 2026-2027: Medium-sized companies, with 250+ employees, revenues of $200 million+, and assets over $500 million, will commence compliance with the new rules.

🌱 2027-2028: Smaller entities, employing 100+ individuals, generating $50 million+ in revenue, and possessing assets over $25 million, will commence compliance with the new rules.
