Ever noticed your bass gets stronger when you walk toward the back of the room?
Same speakers.
Same subwoofer.
Same volume.
But suddenly there's more bass.
Your sub didn't magically get louder.
Low frequencies interact with the boundaries of your room, and near walls you can experience stronger bass energy at certain frequencies.
It's one of the reasons bass can sound completely different depending on where you listen.
And it's also why simply turning the subwoofer up isn't always the answer.
If the bass is weak at your listening position but enormous near the rear wall, that tells you something useful about how your room is behaving.
🎧 Try this tonight:
Put on a track with consistent deep bass.
Listen from your normal seat.
Then slowly walk toward the rear wall.
Does the bass get STRONGER, WEAKER or stay roughly the SAME?
👇 Tell me what happens in your room.
You might be surprised by how dramatic the difference is.

Your speakers didn't move. So why did the singer?

One of the things we love about a properly set-up stereo system is that moment when the speakers seem to disappear.

The singer isn't coming from the left speaker.

They're not coming from the right speaker.

They appear to be standing right between them.

That's the phantom centre image.

But here's a simple experiment.

Put on a track with a strong centre vocal and sit in your normal listening position.

Now move your head or upper body roughly 30 cm to one side.

Listen again.

You may notice the vocal starts pulling toward one speaker.

Nothing changed in the system.

Same speakers.
Same amplifier.
Same track.
Same volume.

You changed your relationship with the speakers.

Move back into the sweet spot and the centre image can snap back into focus.

This is one reason listening position, speaker symmetry and placement matter so much when you're chasing great stereo imaging.

You don't always need to change equipment to hear a meaningful difference.

Sometimes you just need to understand the geometry you already have.

🎧 Try it tonight.

Play a track with a really solid centre vocal.

Move about 30 cm left, then 30 cm right.

👇 Does the singer move with you, or stay firmly in the middle?

Tell me what happens.

Same system. Same subwoofer. Completely different bass.

Ever noticed that bass can sound huge in one seat... then almost disappear just a short distance away?

Your subwoofer didn't suddenly stop working.

The room changed what reached your ears.

Low frequencies interact with the boundaries of the room and create peaks and nulls.

At one position, bass frequencies can reinforce each other.

Move somewhere else and those same frequencies can partially cancel.

That's why one person can complain that the bass is overpowering while somebody sitting nearby thinks there's barely enough.

And it's also why immediately turning up the subwoofer isn't always the answer.

Sometimes the first thing worth testing is much simpler:

Move the listening position.

Even a relatively small change can put your ears in a very different relationship with the room's bass behaviour.

🎧 Try this tonight:

Play a track you know has strong bass.

Listen from your normal seat.

Then move to the next seat, lean forward, or move slightly backwards.

Does the bass get stronger, weaker or stay roughly the same?

👇 Tell me what happens in the comments.

I'm genuinely interested to see how many people can hear the difference immediately.

Thinking about buying new speakers?

Before you spend thousands, ask yourself one question:

Are your speakers actually the problem?

New speakers can absolutely transform a system when they're genuinely the limitation.

But sometimes we're asking new speakers to fix something they can't.

Poor placement can weaken imaging.

The room can create muddy or uneven bass.

Reflections can affect clarity and focus.

Calibration can change the tonal balance.

The amplifier may not be the limitation at all.

And sometimes we haven't clearly defined what problem we're actually trying to solve with the upgrade.

That's how people spend thousands, install better speakers... and wonder why the improvement wasn't nearly as big as expected.

So I created a FREE 12-page Before You Buy New Speakers guide.

It walks you through what to check first, why speaker upgrades sometimes disappoint, the Audio Upgrade Decision Ladder, and importantly, when new speakers really are the right decision.

This isn't an anti-upgrade guide.

It's about making sure your next upgrade actually solves the problem.

👇 Comment “UPGRADE” and I'll send you the complete 12-page guide automatically.

Understand the limitation. Then choose the upgrade.

A wider soundstage isn't always a better soundstage.
One of the most common speaker-placement mistakes is putting your speakers too far apart for your listening position.
It can sound impressive at first. Everything feels huge and spacious.
But push them too far apart and something important can start to disappear:
The centre image.
Vocals lose focus.
The middle of the soundstage feels empty.
Instruments stop locking into position.
You hear two speakers instead of one convincing stereo image.
And this is exactly why speaker placement shouldn't be guesswork.
Sometimes moving your speakers slightly closer together, adjusting toe-in or changing the relationship between speaker spacing and listening distance can transform the system without changing a single piece of equipment.
I've put together a FREE Speaker Placement Guide covering the common mistakes that stop good speakers performing at their best.
👇 Comment “SPEAKERS” and I'll send you the guide automatically.
Before you buy something new, make sure you've heard what the speakers you already own can actually do.

Most people don't have a speaker problem.
They have a bass problem.
And one of the biggest mistakes I see is surprisingly simple...

Speakers pushed too close to the front wall.
The result?
• Boomy bass • Muddy bass • Missing low frequencies • Bass that changes every time you move around the room
The frustrating part is that many people start shopping for a new amplifier, new speakers or a new subwoofer.....when the room and speaker placement are often the real issue.
Sometimes moving your speakers just a few centimetres can make a bigger difference than spending thousands on new equipment.
That's exactly why I created a new free guide:
7 Bass Mistakes Killing Your System
It's designed to help you identify the most common bass mistakes before you waste money on unnecessary upgrades.
👇 Comment "BASS" and I'll automatically send you the free guide.
You might be surprised how much performance your current system still has.

Your room has a bigger impact on sound than most equipment upgrades.
Before you spend thousands on new speakers, amplifiers or cables...
Make sure the room isn't the real problem.
We've put together a FREE Room Health Check to help you identify the biggest issues affecting your system and where to start.
👇 Comment "ROOM" and we'll send it to you.
It could save you a lot of money—and help you get more from the equipment you already own.

My bass sounds muddy.”
That is all you need to say.
With AudioBro V2, you no longer need to know which acoustic tool to open, which graph to study or which technical question to ask.
Describe what you are hearing in normal language.
Add your room dimensions, photos or measurements when needed.
AudioBro works through the evidence, identifies what is most likely holding the system back and gives you one practical move to try first.
In this example, the first move is not buying another subwoofer.
It is understanding how the room and listening position are affecting the bass.
That is the biggest change in AudioBro V2:
Complicated room optimisation now begins with a simple conversation.

AudioBro V2 has already been covered by What Hi-Fi, The Absolute Sound and eCoustics.

The new eCoustics feature examines the conversational workflow, room memory, measurement support and how AudioBro fits alongside systems such as Dirac Live.

After 3.5 years of building, today is a pretty special day for me.
What Hi-Fi has just featured the launch of AudioBro V2, something I've poured thousands of hours into with one simple goal: helping people get better sound from the equipment they already own.
V2 completely changes how AudioBro works. Instead of navigating menus and tools, you simply describe your problem in plain English.
"My bass sounds muddy."
"My dialogue is hard to hear."
"Can you analyse my room photo?"
"Can you read my REW measurements?"
Then AudioBro guides you through the process like an acoustic consultant.
I know self-promotion isn't why most of us are in these groups, but I also know many of you have supported my educational posts over the years, so I wanted to share this milestone with you.
I'd genuinely love your feedback.

It's finally here.
For the last few months I've been hinting that something big was coming.
Today I can finally share it.
AudioBro V2 is now live, and What Hi-Fi has just published their coverage of the launch.
This has easily been the biggest project of my career. The goal was simple:
Make expert acoustic advice as easy as having a conversation.
Instead of trying to work out which tool to use, you can now simply tell AudioBro what's happening, upload room photos or measurements, and it guides you through the next steps.
I'd genuinely love your feedback because this community has helped shape AudioBro from the very beginning.
