In April 2025, Isaac Perdomo wrote a post saying 2025 wasn't the year of AI agents. He doubted 2026 would be either.

He changed his mind.

What shifted? He got an AI agent to log into his bank, navigate multiple accounts, download six months of statements across every financial instrument, categorize transactions, and build a full dashboard.

Something he admits he would have put off forever, done in 30 minutes.

So where are we with AI agents now?
1️⃣ Better reasoning.
2️⃣ More native connectors.
3️⃣ Browser use that actually works.
4️⃣ Guardrails that enterprise teams can trust.

None of those four things were ready 12 months ago. All four improved faster than expected, according to Isaac.

Technology will keep evolving. Business models will change.

But one thing will remain: clients will always need someone they trust to help them make confident decisions.

That's you... the constant hero 😉

The advisor who stays centered on people, even as the industry shifts around them.

Industry leaders and voices like Jason Ackerman, Matthew May, Yuri Kapilovich, Ana Lukac, Tim Petrey, and Jennifer Green predict that a decade from now, firms will look different: more automated, more connected, and more accessible than before.

Yet the heart of the work remains unchanged 🩶

This is just one of the many perspectives explored in The Future of Accounting eBook, alongside predictions about AI-powered firms, embedded partnerships, and the rise of purpose-driven leadership 💪

For the 3rd year running, one group stands out in The State of AI in Accounting Report 2026.

Mid-sized firms with 21-50 staff are the most energized and least fearful about AI.

Why? They’ve hit the sweet spot 🍬

✅ Enough structure to operationalize AI properly.
✅ Enough agility to move fast without layers of friction.

It’s one of those cases where size doesn’t guarantee success. But at this stage of growth, readiness matters more than scale 🚀

Learn more about how mid-sized firms are taking advantage of AI.

The first episode of Open Books is now available on-demand on Karbon Magazine: https://karbonhq.com/resources/webinars/inside-platform-accounting-group/

Open Books is a new interview series from Karbon that brings accounting's top firms on the record to share what they've learned about acquisitions, scaling, and what sustainable growth looks like.

In this episode, Karbon CEO Mary Delaney and Karbon Executive Advisor & Open Books host Joe Carufe sit down with Reyes Florez, CEO & Founder of Platform Accounting Group.

Reyes leads a 1,000-person firm that was built in part through a deliberate acquisition strategy. He talks through the Platform model, what deals look like for the firms involved, and how a firm operating at serious scale should be approaching AI right now.

Also joining the conversation are Albert Tinnell and Kaycie Edeh, two people who went through a Platform acquisition on the firm side. They share what they didn't know going in, what changed, and what they'd tell someone on a similar path today.

If you’ve watched the session, what resonated most with you? Let us know in the comments.

You’re invited to the Loft 💌

The Loft by Karbon is now open, giving accounting and bookkeeping professionals, like you, a peer-led community to learn, connect, and build real AI skills together.

You don’t need to be a Karbon customer to join. This is for you, the community.

Accounting is changing fast, but one thing that has stayed true to this profession is the sense of community: people who are genuinely willing to share what they know and lift everyone around them. Karbon has seen it happen within its own community, and now, it’s time to create something bigger and more connected, together.

The Loft offers two spaces:
1️⃣ One is an open space for any accounting or bookkeeping professional who’s curious, motivated, and eager to exchange ideas.
2️⃣ Second is a space for current Karbon customers who want to share workflows, experiences, and firm knowledge with each other.

Everyone benefits at the Loft. So come on up: https://theloft.bykarbon.com/

How many of your billing tasks this month are still manual?

For a lot of advisory firms, the answer is: most of them. And those manual steps don’t just slow things down, they make it almost impossible to see where revenue is slipping.

That's where Virtus Advisory Services started. But it's not where they stayed.
