Ti2 | Open Automation. Real Engineering.

What does open automation look like in operation?

The IICA Sydney Technology Expo gave Ti2 the opportunity to showcase exactly that, both at our exhibition stand and through our participation in the CODESYS Corner.

And, quite simply, we loved it.

CODESYS is a technology we are genuinely passionate about because it challenges the traditional idea that control software and hardware must come from the same manufacturer.

Engineers can work within a common IEC 61131-3 engineering environment while selecting hardware that best suits the application.

This provides greater flexibility across controller performance, I/O, communications, industrial computing, availability and system architecture, rather than designing around a single hardware vendor.

At the CODESYS Corner, Ti2 demonstrated this through live hardware and applications, including high-speed digital I/O, real-time logic, SoftPLC, CODESYS WebVisu and multi-vendor integration.

But open automation is about more than technology. It is about having the freedom to engineer the right solution for the application.

Ti2 works with a broad network of technology partners, including Festo and Softing, alongside ARBOR Technology, Berghof Automation, CMZ, Elastel, ELGENS, Helmholz, Janz Tec, MPL and ODOT Automation.

Together, these partnerships provide access to complementary technologies across industrial control, pneumatics, remote I/O, industrial computing, networking, communications and diagnostics.

We can begin with the engineering challenge, understand the requirements and select the technologies that make the most sense.

Not tied to one hardware platform. Not constrained by one vendor. Just practical engineering focused on the right outcome.

Thank you to everyone who visited the Ti2 stand and CODESYS Corner in Sydney. The technical conversations, questions and enthusiasm for open automation were fantastic.

We look forward to continuing the conversation at the IICA Melbourne Technology Expo 2026.

Our Melbourne stand will feature CODESYS technology and demonstrations, alongside a selection of our technology partners, showing how these technologies work together in practical industrial automation applications.

Come and talk to the Ti2 team about CODESYS, open automation, control systems and system integration, and see what’s possible when you have the freedom to choose the right technology for the job.

Operational Preference over Infrastructure Disruption

In highly regulated medical manufacturing, "newest" does not always mean "best". When a premier medical device innovator needed to scale infrastructure due to growth, a total system overhaul was not an option because months of updates would hold up production and create massive costs.

At Ti2 Group, we believe true engineering consultation means solving for both technical capability and commercial risk. Respecting our client's preference to use older products to protect their active lines, we spec’d a solution where Softing products were the only products utilised to expand their network smoothly.

The result was scaled capacity, zero major update delays, and fully optimised production uptime.

Functional Safety | Why Safety Shouldn’t Complicate Your Control Architecture

Integrating functional safety into an automation system can introduce significant engineering complexity.

Traditional safety architectures may require additional hardware, extensive wiring and separate engineering environments, increasing cabinet requirements and adding further steps throughout design, commissioning and maintenance.

But protecting people and machinery should not require an unnecessarily complex control architecture.

Berghof Automation provides modular functional safety solutions designed to integrate safety functionality within modern automation environments.

Built around the open CODESYS V3 platform, the solution combines a Safety PLC with modular Safety I/O and communication via Fail Safe over EtherCAT (FSoE), supporting the development of safety applications up to SIL3 and PLe.

The result is a more integrated approach to functional safety:
▪️ Integrated Safety Engineering
Develop standard control and safety applications within the CODESYS environment, helping streamline engineering workflows and reduce unnecessary software complexity.

What If You Could Develop And Test Your Application Before Choosing The Hardware

Most automation platforms expect you to commit before you've even started.

Buy the hardware.

Purchase the software licence.

Build the development environment.

Then find out whether the platform actually suits your application.

It's one of the reasons many engineering teams become trapped in expensive vendor ecosystems.

What if you could simply download the software, build your application, test your logic, and evaluate the platform before making a hardware decision?

That's one of the reasons CODESYS continues to gain traction across industrial automation.

Built on IEC 61131-3 standards, CODESYS provides a hardware-independent engineering environment that allows developers to create and test applications without immediately being tied to a specific controller platform.

The benefits are significant:
• Reduced dependence on proprietary ecosystems
• Greater flexibility when selecting hardware
• Lower software licensing costs in many applications
• Faster development and prototyping
• Access to a free 2-hour PLC simulation environment for evaluation and testing

In a market where supply chain delays, budget pressures, and technology obsolescence continue to challenge projects, maintaining flexibility has become a strategic advantage.

If your current automation platform disappeared tomorrow, how difficult would it be to move your application elsewhere?
