A simple check-in can become a powerful moment of connection.

Every time a student is asked how they are feeling, they are given a chance to feel seen, heard, and supported.

Life Skills GO helps schools make those moments part of everyday wellbeing practice, giving students a voice and helping educators better understand what support may be needed.

Because sometimes, being asked “How are you?” can make all the difference.

We identifies priority wellbeing issues, including cyberbullying and online harm, anxiety disorders, school refusal, sleep deprivation and school belonging deficits.

With 3,196 schools and 1,257,719 students, the scale is significant - and so is the opportunity to build systems that see the whole child sooner.

Attendance decline can be one of the clearest signs that something is happening, but it is rarely the whole story.

In this National Check-In Week webinar snippet, the conversation shifts the question from “Why aren’t they attending?” to “What has made attendance feel impossible?”

For many young people, absence may be the visible outcome of anxiety, emotional distress, disconnection, or other challenges sitting beneath the surface.

When schools look beyond the signal, they can better understand the student and respond with earlier, more meaningful support.

Some students look fine on the outside while carrying more than anyone can see.

Anxiety can be hidden. Loneliness can be hidden. Disengagement can be hidden.

That is why real-time data that includes student voice matters.

A simple check-in creates a moment to listen, understand, and connect before a concern becomes harder to reach.

National Check-In Week 2026 helps schools bring student voice into the picture, so every child has the opportunity to be seen, supported, and able to thrive.

After 24 years working in education, I have met and hired a lot of people. But every now and then, you meet someone who looks you in the eye and says yes — we share a responsibility to ensure our young people are seen, supported, and that we as the adults will make the change that needs to happen.

For me, that person has been Dr Mark Williams OAM.

His impact on Life Skills GO, the contribution he shares so freely as a core member of National Check-In Week, and the mentoring and support he has offered me personally is not something I have experienced often in my career. It is rare. It is genuine. And it has meant more than I can easily put into words.
To see your tireless commitment to young people recognised in this way has brought us all the greatest joy.

There is no one more deserving of that honour.

Congratulations, Dr. Mark. Thank you for everything, that you have done and continue to do.

What if attendance support started before a child ended up on a list?

In this National Check-In Week webinar snippet, the conversation looks at the need for preventative systems that help schools understand what drives engagement before attendance becomes a concern.

Instead of waiting until absence triggers letters, warnings, or pressure on families, schools need earlier insight into what helps students feel connected, supported, and able to show up.

National Check-In Week is about moving from late reaction to earlier understanding, using student voice, wellbeing data, and whole-child insight.

Every day in a young person’s life matters.

In this National Check-In Week webinar snippet, the conversation calls for courage, curiosity, and change in how we support young people through school.

The world students are growing up in is complex, fast-moving, and filled with pressures many adults did not experience in the same way. That is why schools and systems need to stay curious, listen earlier, and create the conditions where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.

National Check-In Week is about helping adults see the whole child sooner and respond with greater care, insight, and shared responsibility.
