UNSDG #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Women’s economic security and full participation in meaningful, dignified, flexible and financially secure employment create healthier families, safer communities, and projected to minimise reliance on government welfare and alleviate pensioner poverty.

We will be joined by Kizzy Gardiner, director of Fundraising and Communications for ShelterBox UK (https://www.shelterbox.org/) to talk about the work of ShelterBox and to outline the highlights and challenges involved in delivering services and raising funds particularly during the pandemic.

Hear Kizzy’s inspiring story.

UNSDG #17: Partnerships For the Goals

This week we commemorate International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. We should be celebrating pathways for inclusion, participation and protection of diverse voices and representation.

Instead, we see a substandard example of partnerships done badly. With all the resources at the disposal of and - no one flagged how badly their messaging missed the mark.

Happy Grandparents Day - when we celebrate the contributions grandparents and wise elders make to their families and communities. A day we recognise the diversity of grandparent relationships across age groups, cultural backgrounds, and geographical locations.

May we continue to foster intergenerational learning and offer our wise elders ongoing opportunities to participate in their local communities and in global conversations.

What a perfect time to share this snippet from this year’s WOW Global Festival of our esteemed Australian patron The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce in conversation with the wonderful Cathy Hunt.

: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
At this year’s UN General Assembly, only 11 of the 196 scheduled speakers were women. And not until the 2nd day did we hear a female voice.

According to Our World in Data, women make up 49.6% of the world’s population. When our voices only make up 8% of the official speakers at our UN General Assembly, it’s fair to say: .

The first female voice we heard was President Zuzana Caputova of Slovakia, and her “Globalisation of Compassion” is the leadership wisdom we needed to hear. This is the mindset and global approach that inspires and elevates our humanity to the next level.

President Zuzana Caputova of Slovakia was the 52nd speaker to take the virtual platform, one of just 11 woman speaking.

The HMEF programs are directly achieving 3 of the UNDGs:

‘We’re giving scholarship recipients what they need to succeed. The scholarships include computers, internet access, money for other equipment and access to tutoring and mentoring to make their final years of schooling a success.’
