Windows 10 end of Support is October 14. Thankfully for most people there is a free way to extend Support until October 2026 and continue to receive updates.

As long as your computer is signed in with a Microsoft account, look under Windows update for a prompt to ENROLL NOW IN EXTENDED SUPPORT.

Click on this and for most users it should be at no cost. It shouldn’t even require you to reboot the computer.

For most users on computers that are still perfectly serviceable this will take the pressure off for at least the next 12 months.

Simple tips to avoid being scammed…

1- never let anyone remote access your PC or phone.
2- always check the sender details on emails regarding your accounts
3- pop ups with phone numbers to call are NEVER legitimate. Navigate away from the site or force restart your PC.
4- a legitimate company doesn’t not need access to your device to assist with your account
5- a legitimate company will never ask you to buy gift cards

Have power BUT no internet?

1- restart/reboot modem (off/on at wall, allow 1 min)

2- look for the WAN/DSL and ONLINE lights (if not on after 3 mins, likely a NBN fault, call provider)

3- check your device is connected to YOUR wifi network (not something else open and in range)

4- if no luck, use your MOBILE PHONE HOTSPOT for wifi (usually under settings/connections/mobile hotspot on most phones)
