Ransomware isn’t what it used to be.

Recent research found that attackers are becoming far more organised, using urgency, negotiation and stolen data to pressure businesses into paying.

And while strong backups are essential, they’re only part of being prepared.

If your systems went offline tomorrow, would your team know:
• Who leads the response?
• How to communicate?
• What needs to happen first?

These are decisions best made before an attack, not during one.

👉 Not sure how prepared your business is? Book a quick conversation with us to review your cyber security and identify potential gaps: https://calendly.com/kat_murray/quick-call

When a cyber incident happens, the first 60 minutes can move quickly.

There are decisions to make, people to notify and a business that still needs to keep moving.

That’s why preparation matters long before an alert comes in.

Ask yourself:
• Does your team know who takes the lead?
• Do they know what needs to be isolated and when?
• Is there a clear communication and escalation process?
• Do you know how evidence will be preserved?
• Is additional support ready if your internal team needs it?

When every minute counts, you don’t want to be figuring out the plan as you go.

If you’re not confident about the answers above, it might be time to review how prepared your business really is.

Have you started asking AI instead of Google? 🤖

More people are using AI to find software, troubleshoot problems and compare tools.

Cyber criminals have noticed.

Researchers have found fake websites being created to look like legitimate software providers, with the goal of appearing in AI-generated recommendations. Downloading from the wrong source could mean installing malware instead.

That doesn't mean you should stop using AI. It just means you should treat AI recommendations the same way you would search results.

Before downloading software:
• Download it from the vendor's official website.
• Double-check links before clicking.
• If something doesn't look right, trust your instincts.

AI is a powerful tool, but good cyber security habits still matter.

Most cyber security problems begin during completely normal moments at work.

Someone logs into the wrong page. A password gets shared because it feels quicker. An old account stays active longer than anyone realised.

That's why strong cyber security is about more than software. It starts with better habits, clear processes, and a culture where everyone plays a role in protecting the business.

Our latest IT Guide explores what a security-first culture looks like, why everyday habits matter, and practical ways to strengthen your business without making work harder for your team.

Would you install an app just because it's in the app store? 📱

Most of us assume that if an app is available to download in the app store, someone has already checked it's safe.

Unfortunately, that's not always true.

Researchers recently uncovered hundreds of fake Android apps disguised as everyday tools like PDF readers and utility apps. They looked legitimate, but some later prompted users to install malicious software.

Before installing a new app on a work device:
• Check who developed it.
• Read recent reviews.
• Only install updates through the official app store.

A few extra minutes of caution today can help prevent a much bigger security issue tomorrow.

Some files are inconvenient to replace.

Others can stop your business in its tracks.

Ask yourself:
• Is your customer data protected?
• How secure is your financial information?
• Could you quickly recover your operational data if disaster struck?

Backing up your data is only part of the solution. Knowing how quickly you can restore it, and whether the right protections are in place, is just as important.

If you're not sure, it might be time to ask a few questions.

Australia's biggest cyber security incidents in Quarter 2 of 2026 reveal one clear trend.

Many weren't the result of highly sophisticated attacks.

They began with overlooked vulnerabilities, third-party providers, compromised credentials, and everyday security gaps.

The consequences were significant:
• Sensitive data exposed
• Operations disrupted
• Customer trust impacted
• Financial and reputational damage

Cyber risk is ultimately a business issue.

In our latest blog, we've analysed the 10 most significant cyber security incidents across Australia during Quarter 2 (April to June 2026), exploring what happened, the impact on organisations, and the lessons every business can learn.

What's sitting on your IT "we'll get to it later" list? 📝

Every business has one.

Reviewing permissions. Cleaning up old accounts. Updating configurations. Improving processes that still work... but could work better.

None of these are urgent.

Which is exactly why they rarely get done.

Over time, those small tasks become technical debt, making your environment harder to manage and increasing unnecessary risk.

Co-managed IT helps you stay ahead of those tasks, so your internal team can focus on strategic priorities while the important maintenance doesn't get left behind.

Stop letting your IT backlog grow while your team stays stuck in reactive mode.

How many important projects are sitting in "almost done"? 👀

Most projects don't stall because they're too difficult.

They stall because the team responsible for them is constantly being pulled into something else.

Support tickets. Urgent requests. Unexpected priorities.

When that happens, projects lose momentum and take far longer than they should.

That's where co-managed IT can help. By taking some of the day-to-day pressure off your internal team, they can stay focused on the work that moves your business forward.

If your IT team is spending more time reacting than delivering strategic initiatives, it's time for a different approach.
