Over the past five weeks, we have been trying new printing techniques, equipment, and experimenting in our Intermediate Letterpress workshop. Here are some highlights (when I remembered to press record).

The aftermath from diecutting duplexed stock. Featuring Ball & Doggett Colorplan in Pistachio and Pristine White. People have told me I should be doing something with the diecut papers, but I haven’t yet found a project for them. I’m curious, let me know how would you use papers with a cut out not quite in the middle of the page?

Pantone 551 on the press. I’ve been printing with many colourful inks recently for various client projects. This ink colour looked great on the press this afternoon. Do you have a favourite ink colour on the press?

We had a busy weekend with our Intro to Letterpress and Wood Type Poster workshops. It was so great seeing everyone learn to typeset with movable type and print.

Did you know that the typeface of our Bright Press logo is Cooper Black. I’ve always wanted to have some Cooper Black movable type in our Print Shop. However, I haven’t had much successful in acquiring any. One of my mates Phil Gambrill alerted me that someone was selling some type online, and I immediately jumped at the opportunity. The parcel finally arrived from the US. Of course I had to ink up the type and test it out. Welcome 72pt Cooper Black to Bright Press!

School holiday activities. We had a very fun and productive Lego Letterpress workshop at Midland Junction Arts Centre today. Fluoro green ink looked great on the press and in print.

I have been playing with the Dry Inc. rotary angle chase, 3-D printed for me by James Bryans. This tool has been so fun to use! The experimental print was hand inked and of course I smudged it. 😜

Almost a year ago, I was in Hong Kong for 國際活版節 Letterpress International organised by 當代印藝 Print Art Contemporary. 字花 a local publication was at the event and had chats with many of us printers that participated in the festival. It took me a long time to have a printed copy of the magazine. But thanks to Typesettingsg 🇸🇬 and PAPERWORK 紙本作業 who found me a copy! I finally scanned the interviews that feature my printing mates Letian LetterPress 樂田活版工房 TYPA Doyoupress L'Atelier Letterpress Echos エコース. I’m proud to be featured in a printed publication with my letterpress mates! The interviews are in Chinese, but a little Google Translate comes in handy.
