This project has been way more than a “website build”: it was a positioning, UX, copy, brand strategy and conversion project.
We recently had the privilege of working on the rebrand and website for Dandy Loans, an Australian point of reference for ethical lending.
When we approach a website, branding always comes first. The message is the terrain from which the aesthetic, layout, copy and overall user experience should spring.
For Dandy Loans, we wanted to achieve two things from the very beginning:
Express clearly that finance and ethics do not need to be opposites.
Convey a sense of groundedness, clarity and calm thinking.
According to our research, people who care about ethical lending can still feel nervous about bias, emotional decision-making, commercial viability and greenwashing rhetoric.
So it was important for the brand to feel authoritative, not moralising. Considered, not vague. Ethical, but still financially serious.
We started with one of the most authoritative formats of all: a dictionary definition.
So we created the definition of Dandy Loans itself:
ethical loans that help you borrow well, without costing the earth.
We placed this in the About page of the website, visualised as a dictionary-style definition, and ensure that the overall layout reflected that statement - giving the brand a sense of clarity, authority and meaning.
From there, the rest of the design followed: a balance between refined branding, essentialist copy, in-theme photography, clear page hierarchy, SEO/GEO principles and technical performance, including an extremely fast loading speed.
Every section was designed with intention: the order in which information appears, the amount of breathing space around each message, the way objections are addressed, and the effort to avoid clutter or confusion around what the service is and who it is for.
To us, this is what contemporary website design should do: it should clarify the brand, reduce cognitive load, build trust, guide attention and make the next step feel logical.
Have a look at the Dandy Loans website and let us know what you think.
