At the end of a difficult delivery, a nurse anesthetist poured ether into the shoe of a youthful obstetrician. Revenge took the form of pouring ether down her bosom.

In reprisal for the cold front, she loaded a syringe and shot a stream of ether at the back of the obstetrician's head who was now sprawled in a chair in the doctor's lounge.

A cigarette ignited the target area and flame spread along the v***r trail to ignite the anesthetist's clothing. Scorched scalp and neck and burned breasts rewarded the horseplay.

What could possibly go wrong?

Before he became famous as the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud was one of co***ne's biggest advocates.

In the 1880s, co***ne wasn't illegal and was considered a promising new medicine. Freud believed it could treat depression, improve energy, help digestive problems, and even assist with morphine addiction.

He published a paper called Über Coca ("On Coca") enthusiastically promoting its use.

Unfortunately, co***ne turned out to be rather more addictive than Freud anticipated.

One positive outcome did emerge, however. Research into co***ne's numbing properties helped pave the way for the development of modern local anaesthesia.

A reminder that not every medical breakthrough ages particularly well.
