Anthropic dropped two new models tonight.

One you can start using today. The other? You probably won’t get your hands on it anytime soon.

Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1.

Anthropic says both are now among the most advanced models in the world for coding and knowledge work.

That’s a big claim. But look at the numbers.

There’s a benchmark called Terminal-Bench-Science, where models are given actual scientific research tasks.

Fable 5 scored 24.7%.

Fable 5.1 scored 52.6%.

GPT-5.6 Sol? 22.4%.

Basically, Fable more than doubled its score in one jump. That kind of improvement is pretty unusual in this industry.

And Mythos 5.1 is even more interesting for coding.

On Terminal-Bench 4.0, it scored 60.9%, compared to 52.3% for Opus 5.

For computer use — where the model can actually control the mouse and keyboard and get things done — it scored 77.9%.

Now comes the part that actually matters to your wallet.

Anthropic has cut the price of API cache reads by 75%.

Depending on how you're using the API, total costs can apparently come down by around 25–45%.

If you're not familiar with caching, here's why it matters:

Say you're working on a large codebase or repeatedly sending the same big document to an AI model. Without caching, you're essentially paying to process that context again and again.

With caching, the model can reuse that same context at a much lower cost.

For long-running projects, that can make a huge difference.

And apparently, on release day, they also reset everyone's 5-hour and weekly limits.

But there's an important catch.

Mythos 5.1 isn't for everyone.

Access is currently restricted to verified partners working in areas like cybersecurity and life sciences.

For regular users, Fable 5.1 is the one you'll get access to — through Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, as well as Claude Code, Cursor and AWS.

Also, benchmark scores aren't the same thing as real-world performance.
