Here is an awesome journey of two furniture piece....from scratch to reality!
In the frame of a Franco-German cultural project with Alliance Française de Dhaka and Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, the Jute Lab got to prototype the two pieces of furniture that resulted from the design workshop held with eight of a design contest participants, along with Studio Katra in Dhaka in November 2016. In order to make the Rick Chair and Khatiya Table out of jute fiber composite material, they got to build up male moulds, cut jute fiber reinforcement fabric preform layers, infuse the jute fiber fabric layers with polyester resin, cut the furniture pieces out and finish their external surface by sanding, gel-coating and varnishing them. It took almost 5 months to the Jute Lab team to be done with all this prototyping work back in Concarneau, France, at the Kaïros company workshop, and with the good help of Bilou, Ronan, David, Ludo, Erwan, Manu, Tom, Stan, Ronan, Jules, Sibylle, and the rest of Kaïros, Safran and Explore people.
A huge thank you to all of them !
And a special thanks to Antoine from Studio Katra.
