Brand name computers by tier one companies like HP or Dell, especially the business grade ones with 3 year warranties, are likely to be more reliable and have better support than custom assembled computers.
That's because it's in those companies’ own best interest to reduce their costs from post-sales warranty coverage. They carefully test all components for compatibility, and document configurations in detail.
I have built and sold OEM custom systems for people with unusual needs. It isn't easy to do well; it takes a lot of work and care. Expecting get good, cheap systems that way is… well, an illusion.
