A lot of people ask: “What’s the practical use of AI in a hardware and firmware company?”

Here’s a great example from last week.

We needed to reverse engineer an RS485 device. No documentation. No datasheet. No protocol description. Nothing.

Instead of starting from scratch, we used AI as an engineering tool.

We captured the communication and asked AI to help us make sense of it. Step by step, we:

→ Identified the protocol as Modbus
→ Figured out the device address
→ Discovered the relevant read registers
→ Identified the control registers
→ And ultimately controlled the device

Total time: 30–60 minutes.

Doing this manually could easily have taken us days.

And that’s where the real value of AI is for us.

It’s not about replacing engineering knowledge or experience. It’s about accelerating the work around it.

By solving these kinds of technical challenges faster, we can help our customers move faster too! Shorter development cycles, quicker integrations, faster troubleshooting, and ultimately getting them closer to their goals in less time.

Going from “we know nothing about this device” to “we can control it” in under an hour is pretty impressive.

But being able to use that speed to deliver results for our customers faster?

That’s the real evolution!

While many people were enjoying a well-deserved vacation, we gave our engineering processes a little upgrade too. 🚀

Over the past weeks, we’ve been investing heavily in our CI/CD pipelines, hardware & firmware quality processes, automated testing, and internal development tools.

Why? Because better engineering processes ultimately mean better, more reliable products for our customers.

And now it’s time for the next step: bringing AI processing on-premise to help our engineering teams analyze, test, automate and improve even faster.

So please welcome the newest member of the team:

DGX Spark 🤖

(Yes, Spark. But every new employee deserves a nickname.)

No holidays.
No coffee breaks.

Quite a lot of compute. 😄

Another investment in the future of our hardware and firmware development! With one goal: higher quality, faster feedback and better products for our customers. This without compromising on where our data lives.

Welcome to the team! 🚀

Today, VAEngineering turns 9. 🎉

What started as an idea nine years ago has grown into a team passionate about turning ideas into reality.

This milestone wouldn't have been possible without the trust of our customers, the support of our partners, and above all the dedication of our incredible team 💚! Every challenge we've solved, every product we've helped bring to life, and every success we've celebrated has been a shared achievement!

To everyone who has been part of our journey: thank you. Your support, collaboration, and confidence mean the world to us.

Here's to the next chapter of innovation, engineering, and building great products together!

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending an insightful seminar hosted by Würth Elektronik BeNeLux on buck converters and power inductor selection.

The session covered practical design considerations, including what to look for when selecting inductors, how different choices impact converter performance, and where opportunities exist to optimize both cost and efficiency. It's always valuable to combine theory with real-world design experience to make better engineering decisions.

A big thank you to Raf Vleugels for delivering an engaging and informative session, and to Jens De Roover and Gilles Coppens for their support and for making the event possible!

Continuous learning and knowledge sharing are key to building better electronic designs. Looking forward to putting these insights into practice!

During the Belgian Economic Mission to Türkiye, Thomas met several Belgian ministers, including Minister Theo Francken.

It was an interesting moment, because you rarely get the chance to speak with people whose work has an impact on the country and on Belgium’s role abroad.

Unexpected, but definitely a highlight of the Belgian trade mission to Turkey: getting the opportunity to talk about VAEngineering in the VRT news.

A great chance to share our story, what we do, and how we see opportunities for collaboration in Turkey and beyond.

Another fascinating part of the Belgian trade mission to Turkey: visits to ASELSAN and TÜBİTAK.

What stood out most was not only the scale of the organizations, but especially the strong focus on high-tech development, research, and innovation. From advanced technologies to applied R&D, it was impressive to see how engineering, science, and industrial expertise come together to turn ambitious ideas into real-world solutions.

Innovation at this level does not happen in isolation. It requires strong collaboration between research institutions, industry, engineering teams, and long-term technological vision, something that was clearly visible throughout both visits.

For us at VAEngineering, these exchanges are particularly valuable. They provide insight into how different innovation ecosystems operate and reinforce the importance of continuously learning, adapting, and thinking beyond today’s challenges.

More highlights from Turkey to come.

During the Belgian trade mission to Turkey, we had the honour of visiting the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk together with the Belgian delegation for a wreath-laying ceremony.

Moments like these are a reminder that international missions are not only about business and innovation, but also about understanding history, culture, and the relationships between countries.

It was a meaningful moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the broader context in which international cooperation takes place.

A special experience as part of an inspiring and intense week in Turkey.

Another inspiring stop during the Belgian trade mission to Turkey: a visit to Technopark.

We were given an impressive overview of how industries, startups, research institutions, and technology partners work together to accelerate innovation. Seeing this level of collaboration and ecosystem thinking in action was genuinely inspiring.

Thomas also had the opportunity to represent VAEngineering and introduce how we support innovation through our expertise and engineering capabilities. These exchanges are exactly why trade missions matter: learning from different ecosystems, building connections, and exploring where collaboration can create value.

One thing is becoming clear during this mission: the days start early, the schedule moves fast… but the amount of inspiration and opportunity makes every alarm clock worth it.

More highlights from Turkey coming soon.
