Three days. Dozens of conversations. Hundreds of perspectives and one industry navigating extraordinary change.

The conversations at LEADers Summit covered many topics, but they all pointed to the same reality: the energy ecosystem is becoming more connected, more dynamic, and more complex.

Tired of AI posts about energy trading?

👉 Good. Because most of them miss the point anyway.

Behind the hype sits a much harder reality: enterprise energy environments were never designed for AI.

Why is that? ⚙️
Most companies operate across deeply connected ecosystems -
🔹 ETRMs
🔹 Operational tools
🔹 Market data
🔹 Finance systems
🔹 Internal applications
🔹 Legacy infrastructure that still runs critical processes

And that's exactly where scaling AI becomes complicated.

Most companies approach this the wrong way. ⚠️
They start with the AI - pick a model, build an assistant - and then try to connect it to their operational environment. That's where progress stops. The connectors don't exist. The context isn't there. The legacy systems won't move.

🔗 LEAD has been building from the integration layer up, which is a fundamentally different starting point. Universal Loader already connects more than 70 systems across the energy ecosystem through standardized connectors, creating a unified operational layer across fragmented environments.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is rapidly becoming the industry standard for how AI agents discover and invoke tools across systems. By extending Universal Loader's foundation with an MCP layer, AI agents can now securely interact across connected systems, including older and difficult-to-modernize environments, without rebuilding the architecture underneath.

The inability to connect AI to systems that cannot be modernized is one of the hardest unsolved problems in enterprise AI deployment today. Most vendors don't have a credible answer. An integration layer built over years of energy-specific work is exactly that answer.

But the important part is not simply access. The real value is control and auditability.

Organizations decide exactly which systems, workflows, and datasets are exposed to AI agents. They define where agents are permitted to act, what they can trigger, and, critically, what gets logged when they do. In 2026, enterprise buyers are not just asking whether AI can connect to their systems. They are asking how they can prove what it did.

Instead of AI sitting on top of a single system or operating as a disconnected assistant, agents can work across the broader operational ecosystem, interacting with trading, operations, data, and legacy environments through one connected layer, while organisations retain full control over where AI is allowed to act, support workflows, or access information.

The future of enterprise AI will not be won in the model layer. It will be won in the operational layer by the teams who already understand how energy systems connect.

The issue with “temporary” integrations in trading IT is simple:
They outlive every plan and outgrow every assumption.
A quick script solves the pressure of the moment, and then it sits in the middle of the landscape with:

- No owner
- No lifecycle
- No alignment with core platforms

And every change around it becomes harder, slower, riskier.
What we see:
Temporary integrations in trading IT inevitably become part of the long‑term architecture, and the real risk comes from the constantly shifting ecosystem around them and not from the quick fix itself.
