You're Killing Your Shopify App If You Ignore These Essential Steps!
🚨 I built 11 apps in 2024, sold 7 apps and I can say you're sabotaging your own app’s potential! Here are three things you must do to grow your Shopify app business and retain happy users:
1. Segment Your Users for Better Insights
Every single user matters—whether they’re paying you or not. Why?
Negative reviews can hurt your business: Even free users have the power to leave damaging reviews.
Segmentation helps you understand your users: Track who is experiencing errors, which issues are most common, and how users interact with your app.
Real-world insights beat assumptions: Even if you’ve tested your app for months, only real users provide meaningful, actionable data.
By understanding your users, you can build better documentation and offer solutions that address real problems—not just what you think might be an issue.
2. Ask for Reviews Strategically
Reviews are the lifeblood of your app—they:
Improve your position in the Shopify App Store.
Attract new users by building trust and credibility.
Validate your app’s value to potential merchants.
💡 When to ask for reviews:
After resolving an issue for a user via support chat.
From long-term users who’ve seen real success with your app.
The key is timing—ask when your users are happiest and most engaged!
3. Track Your Data to Make Smart Decisions
You can’t grow your app if you’re flying blind. Here’s why data tracking is crucial:
Understand your audience: Are your users new merchants? Where are they located? What languages do they speak?
Improve your marketing: Knowing your users’ demographics helps you craft better ads and target the right people.
Without tracking, you’re relying on guesswork. And guesswork doesn’t scale.

In this issue, I will show you seven great ways on how to find and validate app ideas. And keep in mind, you can and should combine as many methods as possible:
I recently reached out to many people on Twitter. And about half of them said that they are either running are looking to start a Shopify app. And, even if you have an app already, you can increase your chances of success by launching another one.
So without further ado, here are seven great ways on how to find and validate app ideas.

Ask on Twitter
This might sound ridiculous at first, but I have seen people do this, and they actually got a great response. There are a lot of people who are toying with an app idea. But also they don’t have the time or skill to create it, and this is your opportunity!

Shopify Forums
The Shopify Forums is where merchants go when they look for help. This is a goldmine for finding problems for to solve.

Shopify Slack Channel
This one is a bit harder to find than the forums, but it is buzzing with activity. Follow the discussions, and you will find problems to solve in no time.

App Store
Yes, the App Store is a great resource to find problems to solve. You can look for apps that are “out of service”. These are apps that either are getting bad reviews or stopped getting new reviews. To make this easier, I have created a bookmarklet you can use the check-out apps faster. It will pull up the app history from SASI, a free service that monitors all public Shopify apps.

Facebook communities
There is no shortage in Facebook groups for Shopify merchants. And other than the Shopify forums, you can use them to validate your idea as well. How you do this? Before actually writing a single line of code, create a mockup of your app and see if this resonates. If it does you already have your first customers!

Do an internship at a Shopify merchant
A while ago, a computer science student approached me for an internship. While I was skeptical at first, he blew me away with his skill, and I was of course trying to give as much back as I could. So if you are new to e-commerce, this can actually be a great way to get an idea of what’s going on and find problems to solve

Local opportunities
It is not secret that Shopify wants to go global. If you are from outside North America, this means one thing. You have an unfair advantage over your competition.
So look into local services that are only used in your country. Maybe merchants would like to have them integrated with their store!
So these are some great ways to find and validate Shopify app ideas. That I wish I had known before starting an app. You can and should combine as many as you can before writing the first line of code.
PS:
I want to offer you a free 15-minutes brainstorming session to analyze how to best grow your app. Comment 'interested below and I will dm you.

Adobe Will Acquire Figma for $20 Billion.

"TLDRArt by Vijay Verma Adobe has announced it will acquire the collaborative design platform Figma for approximately $20 billion. Dylan Field and Evan Wallace began working on Figma in 2012, now the app is popular among designers and developers. The transaction is expected to close in 2023."

If you are unfamiliar with Figma. Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool. It is primarily web-based, with additional offline functionality enabled by desktop apps for macOS and Windows.

So why am I telling you about it today?
Figma is what you might call a web application. And according to Google, Figma's net worth is over $115 million in 2018. Then last year, in another fundraiser, it soared to $10 billion, now doubled by the deal. From Adobe. According to his LinkedIn,

The net worth already, it is the value of goods and money that a person or a company has, after its debts have been removed.

Adobe therefore buys it back based on the net worth. And it's the same thing for a shopify app.

In fact, if you have a shopify application which now brings you say less than $10k per month, it's not easy to resell it for $1 million. Sorry, but if you get there, then you're in luck. By cons from $ 20k, it becomes interesting to sell it for millions. In fact, what is interesting when you want to launch a shopify application project must be to work your net worth each time. The lines of code don't matter. What matters is the value you will bring to your users and your net worth. Because the ultimate stage of this business model. It is to manage to resell the box as a startup.

Why you absolutely must use this tool for your shopify application project.

Hello, I hope you're in great shape. I'm still making this post today to bring you value, and you must be starting to think you've been seeing me for a while now, ahaha.

Listen, today I'm going to tell you about an amazing tool.
A tool that allows me to do an in-depth analysis in minutes when I need it.
Even when I had uploaded my application, it took only a brief moment for this incredible tool to integrate me perfectly into their tool as a developer and my tool.

This tool is SASI

SASI is a FREE tool (website) that tracks the position, rating and number of reviews of each published app in the Shopify App store.

They're crawled the app store listings and each category daily to monitor, record and then plot those positional changes as well as identify newly published apps.

The team initially put SASI together to try and understand how their own apps were performing in the app store and how this related to the growth of each app. They're showed SASI to their App developer associates, and they validated the assumptions that with a few additional features, other Shopify Partners/Professionals in the Shopify community may find SASI useful too.

How SASI helps you to be N*1 in your domain?

Track performance of keywords:
You can use SASI to track the position of your app against specific keywords and phrases

Track Category Level Performance:
Monitor the position of followed apps in all the categories and sub-categories that they are visible in, as well as their overall app store position.

Shopify Apps for Sale:
Check out all the apps which are available to buy or those who are seeking investment! Get in touch if you would like to list your app on SASI.

Daily Digest Email:
Receive a daily digest email highlighting the movements of apps that you follow. Save a set of keywords to see the position of the apps and how high up they show in app store searches.

Inspired post from unionworks.co.uk

If you do not know SASI yet, I am happy to introduce you to it.
Enjoy

You can also make over $490K if you do this.

$490k is not a lot of money. That's a lot of money. And that's what you can do to yourself if you read what I wrote here for you.

Recently a client asked me the following question: Mendel, I greatly appreciate what you do and the enthusiasm you put into it for this project, but you know, I still have a lot of application projects in mind that I would like to develop in the long term, but I don't especially want to have shopify applications. You know very well that Shopify is not the only one that offers a web application marketplace. Tell me what you think. I am open to your proposals.

I'm doing this post to tell you about what I brought to my client as an answer and to help you too.

You can make loads of money by selling shopify store owner apps as solutions.
But there are other platforms where you can do it.
I'll give you the list.

1 - Striped
It's a payment processor, and you can build apps that will appear on their marketplace.

You can do:

- Accounting apps
- Billing apps
- Analytics
- etc.

2 - Crisp
It's a customer support tool and has its own marketplace for apps.

You can build apps for:

- Automation
- CRM
- etc...

3 - Slack
Slack is a communication tool

You can build apps to improve:

- communication
- Analytics
- Productivity
- etc.

4 - Google Chrome
Chrome is a browser, and you can create web extensions people can use directly in their browser

5-Hubspot

HubSpot is a CRM platform

You can build apps to improve marketing (Sales, Productivity, CS, etc)

6 - Zendesk

- Marketing
- Productivity

- Thrilled
- Etc

7 - Monday

Monday is a project management tool

You can do so much with code when you know it. The essential skill to be able to create applications under these platforms is API integration. You must absolutely learn API integration, otherwise you will not be able to create your applications under these platforms.

Enjoy it.

Publish your shopify app and get approved.

Hello, I hope you are doing well. Well me, I'm in great shape and so today, I'm making this post to talk about a subject that comes up very often. A question that you ask me very continuously, hahaha.

How to get your app approved? Because obviously there are rules to follow to have its application accepted, and I will tell you about them today.

1 - Installing your application.
The installation of your application must be done automatically when simply, and your application must imperatively redirect to a merchant consent screen.
It is up to your coder to take care of this part, to verify your code so that the main link of your application redirects to a consent screen.
If your app does not redirect to the Oauth2.0 consent screen, your app will never get approved.

2 - The logo and name of your application.

If you have a logo, it should fit snugly on the surface of the image. It absolutely must not be cropped or cut. It must be the same as you provide in app settings and listing for app store.
The name of the application must be exactly the same in the settings as in the listing for the app store.

3 - Testing all your app's feature before submitting.

For this, I suppose you're to have a plan when you're building the app.
You plan to build the feature 1 that redirect to the feature 2 then redirect to the feature 3 etc.

So when you are sure all the feature works, and you are about to submit the app, you will tell shopify app review team they exactly need to follow your app feature process to examine how the app works and if all the feature you provide and talk in the listing are working. You must avoid minor bugs.

You should also avoid script tags. Tag scripts are actually an old shopify technology that allows you to work with themes to display content on the merchant store. They now offer the "theme app extension" technology that you will absolutely have to offer in your application.

4 - help page.

Your app should provide a help page that tells you exactly how to use your app. Shopify requires it.

5 - Performance

Your application must be efficient and worthy of cutting-edge technology.
To make sure your app performs, Shopify now asks you to provide proof of analysis in the lighthouse that proves your app is cutting edge and if your stats aren't impressive enough you'll get rejected. I recommend that you avoid long codes that are useless and involve unused resources and libraries in your code.

It allows you to remain fluid and efficient, moreover, follow the SEO advice of the lighthouse tool.

6 - Security

To get your app approved, Shopify has a bot that will check your app in 10 mins and if you haven't secured your app. You will receive an email after 10 min to tell you that your application has been refused. Click this link to learn more https://shopify.dev/apps/store/security/iframe-protection

your application must have an SSL certificate because for the internet, it is security to have an SSL certificate

You need to create a page to talk about how your app uses and stores user data. If you don't talk about it, shopify won't trust you and won't confirm your app,

Your application must absolutely subscribe to mandatory webhooks, click here to learn more https://shopify.dev/apps/webhooks/configuration/mandatory-webhooks

7 - Listing

When you go to submit your application, you will have to fill in other boxes, and you must absolutely respect the rules.

First, you must absolutely avoid mistakes in your text. I recommend the language tool extension on chrome.

Next, you absolutely must avoid having the shopify or shopify partner logo or even personal information such as the name of the developer displayed on the screenshots that you are going to provide for your application. And your app name must not contain the word Shopify, it must be 30 characters or fewer, it must be thoughtful, and it must not refer to any feature of your app.

Finally, avoid using the wrong name or not calling the full name of your application, because they blame you. Also say exactly what features you offer and how the guy checking your app should go about installing it and checking each feature. And create a listing for each language your app is available in. to do it :

Log in to your Partner Dashboard.
Click Apps.
Click the name of your app.
Click Distribution.
Click Create listing or manage listing.
Click Add translated listing.
Return to the App listings page and click Update app

You must talk about your application and not talk about the services of your other services or application, or even leave redirect links.

Here I am talking about the most common reasons for rejection. Those that we do not purposely make as an error.
I recommend that you read it and share it with a loved one in need.
Enjoy it

Five reasons why you need to launch your shopify app today!!!

Take 2 minutes to read this if:

You currently have a freelance business that earns you over $10k per month.

You solve a problem with your business, for example with marketing, you help your customers to have more customers, etc.

You later want to have a startup that will revolve from now around the same solution that you sell as a service and will make you become the international leader in your market.

If you find yourself in any of these cases, let me tell you that I have good news for you.
In fact, I already talk about it, but the easiest thing for you to do is to launch an application and I'll tell you why with Five reasons to support it. So stay until the end.

The possibility of resale has x20 or more: The first reason why you should develop your Shopify application is the possibility of reselling it in the long term. Can you imagine if you want to retire as an entrepreneur? You'll just have to sell your app as a startup and you'll make enough money than you'll ever make with just one deal. 1 single product. The good news is that the more time you'll take to develop your app. The more it will increase in value and the more it has value, the more expensive you can resell it.

The possibility of materializing absolutely all your ideas: So, I don't know if you know this, but shopify is simply the N*1 in the field of e-commerce, which means that they offer the best services and as such their technology is able to integrate any API and seamlessly integrate it into your shopify app project.
Do you want Facebook, Insta, TikTok, WhatsApp, Google, Telegram features in your App?
Perfect shopify allows you to integrate all this and more...

Become the boss of your company without hassle: With the Shopify Partners tool, you won't have to rack your brains to manage your box. Neither to manage invoices nor to monitor the progress of your box. Because Shopify Partners is indeed a very effective All In One tool that allows you to better manage your box. You won't have to be shy about sending invoices for the users of your app, but just focus on the service your app provides and how to offer it to more people and make more money, because believe- me shopify partners makes it easy.

You won't need more time: As you've probably been told, managing a box, especially a shopify application, must take a lot of time, so you tell yourself that you'll postpone your project until later...
No it is wrong
They lied to you because trust me you don't need 30h a day to run a shopify app. Already as I said above, you just need to take care of the service that the application provides, that it is always efficient and then to make sure that more people benefit from the solution to always make more money. . Believe me, it doesn't take too much of your time per day and you can continue to manage your other business on the side without any problem. In addition, shopify partners allows you to set up a team if you want.

You need 0 coding knowledge to do it: The reason that prevents many people today from launching their shopify app is coding. Either they don't master coding, or they're downright afraid of it because they think it's difficult and I understand you. But you don't necessarily need to be an expert in coding before realizing your dreams, because you can simply entrust your projects to a specialist who not only knows about coding, but also masters APIs and coding. shopify app. Besides, if you find yourself in this case, I invite you to send me a private message to tell me about your project.

Bonus: 87% of entrepreneurs admit that they need an application to run their business with Shopify. Know that they already need your app and are waiting for you to launch it. The world is waiting for you.
What are you waiting for?

That's all for today, I hope I have brought you more.

Be well.
