Digital inclusion is only the first chapter.

The next challenge is building ecosystems where healthcare, agriculture, education, finance and public services work together around people's lives instead of existing in isolation.

That's the future we believe Africa is moving toward , and it's the future we're building for.

This concludes our three-part handbook on the evolving community of the unconnected.

What do you think the next chapter of digital inclusion should look like for Africa?

Innovation often starts with a question:

"What technology can we build?"

We think a better question is:

"What reality are people living in?"

When products begin with people's everyday constraints rather than ideal conditions, inclusion stops being a feature and becomes the foundation.

The future of African technology won't be defined by the most advanced solutions.
It will be defined by the most accessible ones.

What if Africa’s biggest innovation advantage isn’t technology, but context?

Across Africa, some of the most impactful innovations are built around realities others might see as constraints, limited connectivity, affordability, basic devices and infrastructure gaps.

We believe innovation should not start with β€œWhat is the newest technology?” but rather β€œWhat will actually work for the people we want to serve?” and as AI creates new possibilities, there is an opportunity to combine emerging technology with channels that already reach millions.

Our latest thought piece explores why designing for reality could shape Africa’s next wave of innovation and why investors, telcos, researchers and innovation partners should pay attention.

For years we've measured digital inclusion by how many people came online, but that's becoming the wrong question.

Millions of Africans already have access to a mobile phone, yet remain disconnected from healthcare, agriculture, education and economic opportunity. At Brastorne, we believe the next chapter isn't about connecting devices. It's about connecting people to the opportunities that improve their lives.

This begins a three-part handbook exploring what the next generation of digital inclusion could look like.

For millions of people across Africa, being "offline" isn't a choice, it's a limitation imposed by infrastructure, affordability, and geography.

Too often, innovation is designed for people who are already connected. We believe the bigger opportunity lies in building for those who aren't.

At Brastorne, we've spent more than a decade asking a simple question:

How do we ensure that meaningful digital access reaches everyone, not just those with smartphones and high-speed internet?

That question has led us to build platforms that connect underserved communities to agriculture, healthcare, markets, financial opportunities, and essential information through technologies people already have access to.

Today, those platforms have positively impacted 5.9 million people across six African countries. But for us, reach has never been the end goal.

What matters is the value created:
-Women farmers increasing their incomes through better access to information and markets.
-Rural communities dramatically reducing the cost of accessing essential services and information.
-Governments, NGOs, research institutions and telecom operators extending the impact of their programmes through digital infrastructure that reaches beyond traditional internet access.

Digital inclusion isn't a challenge any one organisation can solve alone.

It requires collaboration between innovators, mobile network operators, researchers, development partners, governments and investors who believe technology should create opportunity where it is needed most.

Africa's next chapter won't be defined only by new technology. It will be defined by how many more people that technology is able to include.

At Brastorne, we're proud to be building that future one community at a time. Learn more about Brastorne at www.brastorne.com

Today, we celebrate a day to reflect on Botswana's rich heritage, shared values, and the collective journey that has shaped our nation.

It is a reminder that Botswana's progress has always been driven by the resilience of its people, the strength of its communities, and a commitment to unity, peace, and democracy.

As we honour our nation's story, let us continue working together to build a future where innovation, opportunity, and inclusive growth create lasting impact for generations to come.

Happy President's Day, Botswana! Learn more about Brastorne at www.brastorne.com

Some of history's most impactful innovations emerged from environments where resources were limited but creativity was abundant.

Constraints force us to ask better questions.

-How do we make technology more accessible?
-How do we serve millions using existing infrastructure?
-How do we design solutions that work for everyone?

Many African innovators answer these questions every day. Perhaps constraints aren't barriers. Perhaps they're catalysts.

At Brastorne, this thinking influences how we approach every platform we build. Whether through AI, APP, USSD, SMS or VOICE technologies, our focus remains the same, making digital services more accessible for the communities that need them most.

Innovation becomes meaningful when it's inclusive.

For years, conversations about African innovation centred on potential.

Today, the conversation is shifting to ex*****on.

Across the continent, entrepreneurs, researchers, governments and innovators are building solutions that address challenges in healthcare, agriculture, financial inclusion, education and climate resilience.

These aren't simply local success stories, they're innovations designed around real-world constraints that have the potential to influence global thinking on accessibility, inclusion and digital transformation.

Perhaps the question is no longer:

"Can Africa innovate?"

Instead, it's:

"What can the world learn from African innovation?"

At Brastorne, we're proud to be part of this growing ecosystem by building digital platforms that expand access to essential services for underserved communities. Every solution we create is inspired by the belief that innovation should reach everyone, not just the connected few.

The future of innovation is being written across Africa and we're excited to help build it.

What African innovation has inspired you recently?
