⚠️ SCAM ALERT — THEY'RE FAKING YOUR FAVOURITE BRANDS

Six trusted Botswana brands are being impersonated by scammers right now:
🔴 Air Botswana — fake "Platinum Privilege" prize calls
🔴 SPAR Botswana — fake cash prize calls
🔴 BotswanaPost — fake delivery SMS links
🔴 Orange Money & BPC — fake promo and recruitment scams

One rule protects you from all of them: verify directly with the company using a number YOU look up yourself — never a number the caller gives you.

🚨 BPS ALERT — P9 MILLION STOLEN FROM OUR PENSIONERS

The Botswana Police Service has confirmed hard numbers on a crisis targeting our elders:
→ 36 cases, P7.9 million lost in 2025
→ 21 more cases, ~P2 million lost so far in 2026

Two real cases this year:
A 77-year-old man in Tutume lost P78,000 to fake prophets
A 40-year-old woman in Lobatse lost P21,000 to a fake bank KYC call

BPS has launched a Special Task Team dedicated to this exact problem — asset forfeiture and INTERPOL cooperation now in play.

🛡️ Protect your parents and grandparents:
✅ No bank will EVER ask for your PIN or OTP by phone
✅ No police officer demands instant payment by phone
✅ No genuine prophet needs your banking details
✅ If in doubt — hang up and call family first

Have this conversation with your elders TODAY.

NEW SCAM CALL — FNB BOTSWANA OFFICIAL WARNING

Getting a call saying you've been "selected for a cash reward because of your airtime purchases?''

It's a scam. FNB Botswana issued an official warning on 7 August 2026.

How it works:
🔴 Caller says you've won a cash reward linked to your airtime usage
🔴 They ask for your card number, CVV, PIN or banking login
🔴 There is no reward — they are stealing your banking details

Remember: FNB — and no bank — will ever call you to ask for your PIN, CVV or card number.

If you get this call → hang up → call FNB fraud line: 0800 302 302

BPS ALERT — 22 BATSWANA MISSING

Last week, Mmegi published a headline that every Motswana needs to read: "Desperation for jobs abroad leaves 22 Batswana missing."

These are confirmed BPS figures:
→ 22 Batswana reported missing after fake overseas job scams
→ 8 were intercepted before reaching danger
→ Only 2 have been rescued via international cooperation
→ Victims are aged 19 to 48
→ Families have had no contact for several months

These are not statistics. These are brothers, sisters, sons, daughters — who answered a job advertisement on their phone and never came home.

The scam is still active. More Batswana are at risk right now.

⚠️ Before you or anyone you know accepts a job abroad:
✅ Verify the company independently
✅ Contact the Ministry of International Relations
✅ Never travel before fully confirming the employer is real

GabzFMRecap- GoogleListingScam

Yesterday on Gabz FM, Douglas Sekgweng from ScamDetect exposed a scam that most people have never heard of — but that's already costing people across Africa real money.

The Google Listing Hijack Scam

Here's how it works 👇

🔴 Scammers hack or manipulate a restaurant's Google Maps listing
🔴 They replace the real phone number with their own
🔴 You call to make a reservation — you're actually calling a criminal
🔴 They ask for a small deposit via Orange Money to "hold your table"
🔴 You arrive on the night — the restaurant has never heard of you

Ghana's Cyber Security Authority confirmed that GH¢300,000 (nearly P400,000) was lost to this exact scam in just the first 6 months of 2026. Cases more than doubled in one year.

Botswana is not immune. Gaborone restaurant listings on Google Maps are largely unverified right now

✅ The rule: Never call a number you found on Google without verifying it first. Go to the restaurant's official website or official page to get the real number.

Share this — protect your friends and family. 🙏

⚠️ **SCAM ALERT — Fake Gala. Real Theft.**

Scammers in Botswana are using the names and photos of real, well-known business leaders to promote fake award events and business galas — without their knowledge or permission.

Here is how it works:
🔴 You receive an invitation to a prestigious "Africa Business Gala" or "Global Leaders Summit"
🔴 A real executive's name and photo is featured — making it look completely legitimate
🔴 You are asked to pay a registration or "recognition fee" to attend or receive an award
🔴 The event does not exist. Your money is gone.

**This week, Bank Gaborone confirmed that the photo and name of their Managing Director was used without consent in exactly this type of scam.**

The rule: **Always verify any event invitation through the company's official website or social media page before paying anything.**

👉 Report any suspicious event or business offer FREE at: **scamdetect.co.bw**

Share this — someone you know may have received one of these invitations. 👇

*Bank Gaborone is a victim of this impersonation and is not responsible.*
