WATCH OUT FOR COVID19 CHARITY EMAIL SCAMS!!!

People often wonder where the internet "bad guys" get email addresses.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when sending emails is they put all recipients in the "To or CC box. The internet bad guys love this. When one email account or computer is compromised or they intercept an email another way, they then get access to all those email addresses. Then they can "spoof" the addresses and trick people into thinking that the message was from one of email recipients on the list. This is most likely what transpired recently.

What the sender should always do is put the recipients for mass emails in the Bcc section.

At a time like this, email fraud increases significantly. There is so much opportunity to trick vulnerable people into sending money and following other scams. So we should all be extra vigilant to protect ourselves and each other.

Can you help your neighbours in need or are you in need? I have been fortunate to be part of the SIRCH Community Services team since last fall. SIRCH does amazing work assisting those in need in Haliburton County. They provide meals and support to many. There are people in our communities that can't cook for themselves and/or can't even afford to buy food....and I am not talking about just during this current Pandemic. This is their lives all the time! Food is not just the support SIRCH provides. They run a host of other initiatives to assist our local vulnerable sector. SIRCH and it's ability to support those in need has been impacted significantly and needs your help to continue helping the community. Please follow the link below to find out how you can help. Please like and share this post on your own account, in local groups and anywhere else you think could help.

Someone asked me that age old question again today....How do you permanently delete the data from your hard drive, computer, or other new fandangled devices? So I thought I'd pull this old video out of the archive. Still very relevant. :)

Destroying the computer hard drive is the only sure way to permanently delete your computer data...and it's fun! Visit my website: http://www.varganet.ca/

Hey all,
Have you gotten an email recently telling you to upgrade your email program? Sorry for the bad news but you will have to CHANGE!!!! Yup, whether you like it or not you have to let go of your tired old email program and move on to something new. I switched to Gmail years ago, and truthfully, you should have too. But no one likes that big scary word CHANGE. DON'T SHOOT THE MESSANGER!!!! Sadly many will anyway. :(

ALSO, I recommend that you upgrade to windows 10. You will need to migrate your email to the new email program of your choice....and yes everything will be different. Microsoft is kinda forcing everyone to upgrade. Don't blame Microsoft though, blame the jerks who make viruses and everyone who wants the new, next best thing. Microsoft has to keep up or go out of business.
