Step outside and the call is clear. Walk back into the building and the signal drops.

The cell tower has not moved. So what changed? Sometimes, the building itself is part of the answer.

Industrial and corporate buildings are designed around what happens inside them. Concrete, steel, glass, equipment and interior walls all serve a purpose, but those same materials can influence how cellular signals travel.

A mobile phone connects to a carrier network using Radio Frequency (RF) signals. Before that signal reaches someone deep inside a facility, it may need to pass through several physical barriers. Building loss can weaken that connection, which helps explain why a phone may work well outdoors but struggle in an interior office, warehouse or production area.

Cellular enhancement helps address this problem. Instead of creating a new cellular network, the system works with an available carrier signal and helps distribute coverage into areas where reception needs improvement.

In larger or more complex buildings, a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) can distribute cellular service through multiple indoor coverage points. One of

Comtech’s strategic technology partners, Nextivity, provides CEL FI cellular enhancement technology for in building applications, including scalable DAS solutions.

Project Completed - 130-Foot Ballasted Monopole Build, Prince Rupert BC
Comtech has completed the construction and er****on of a 130-foot ARE AFS 1500 ballasted monopole at the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility near Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

Working on an project with , the Comtech team supported the tower build from site walkthrough and installation planning through foundation assembly, ballast placement, ground-level tower assembly, crane-assisted er****on, tower connection and final verification.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project across the finish line. The work in the field, careful planning and coordination all contributed to a successful project completion.

We’re proud of the work completed by our team and excited to celebrate another strong finish for Comtech.
