"Indoor temperature is one of the fundamental characteristics of the indoor environment. It can be controlled with a degree of accuracy depending on the building and its HVAC system. The indoor temperature affects several human responses, including thermal comfort, perceived air quality, sick building syndrome symptoms and performance at work. The study results show that performance increases with temperature up to 21-22 °C, and decreases with temperature above 23-24 °C. The highest productivity is at a temperature of around 22 °C. For example, at the temperature of 30 °C, the performance is only 91.1% of the maximum i.e. the reduction in performance is 8.9%."

Experts said that the demand for electricity keeps soaring due to high temperature, which pushes high the electricity consumption at peak hours; governments' measures to guide users to shift away from peak time usage of electricity can relieve the pressure of peak demand.

Researchers wrote in a paper published in the journal Building Research and Information "Each additional story in a building is associated with a 2.4% increase in electricity use and 2.9% increase in fossil fuel use, more than doubling the average emissions per square foot for the tallest buildings". Windows allow unwanted heat into buildings in summer and allow it to escape in winter, forcing mechanical systems to run harder during more hours of the day, which increases carbon emissions. Typical glass windows insulate only one-fifth as well as the worst wall material, Edminster said.

AI Shading strongly believes in having automated shades in senior homes, because not only does our technology help with regulating room temperatures, but it is also energy efficient as more provinces are pushing to have air conditioning installed for homes in order to prevent heat-related deaths.

According to the province of Ontario, about 60 percent of homes are fully air-conditioned, including resident rooms. An additional 23 percent of homes are working towards being fully air-conditioned. News

“There are still 289 homes that do not have air conditioning in resident rooms. The legislation states that these senior homes must have air conditioning in the common areas.” says Long-term care advocate Vivian Stamatopoulos.
“Staff will be responsible for monitoring the temperature in the homes and that the homes should stay below 26 C.” - Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton

According to the 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan released by the environment and Climate Change Canada this year, The Government of Canada is taking action by expanding the Low Carbon Economy Fund through a $2.2‑billion renewal. The funding aims to leverage further climate actions from provinces and territories, municipalities, universities, colleges, schools, hospitals, businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and Indigenous communities and organizations.
