🌟 Are unconscious biases silently sabotaging your hiring process? 🌟

Bias in the hiring process could cost you top talent and diverse perspectives. When interview biases go unchecked, companies risk overlooking exceptional candidates based on irrelevant factors like name, gender, background, or communication style.

Reducing bias means examining our implicit assumptions to ensure qualified candidates—like autistic people—aren’t overlooked. Levelling the playing field gives all candidates an equitable chance to shine, fostering stronger connections and better business practices.

To help you take that first step, we’ve created a tip sheet with actionable tips to make your interviews more inclusive. It’s better for your candidates—and better for your team. 💼✨

Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Let's talk about disclosure because not all disabilities are visible. (It's important to note that not all autistic people identify as having a disability, but many do, and both perspectives are valid and respected.)

As autistic folks, we hear all sorts of things after disclosing that we are, in fact, autistic. While our workplaces continue to become more neuroinclusive, it can help to have an idea of what to say when a coworker tells you they're autistic.

Check out this clip from auticon Canada's wonderful Neuroinclusion Services Project Manager Tonie Minhas shares three things NOT to say when someone tells you they are autistic.

In today's diverse workforce, it's crucial to ensure that job postings are accessible and welcoming to everyone, including neurodivergent talent. Neurodivergent individuals bring unique perspectives and skills that can drive innovation and success within organizations. However, many employers are unintentionally excluding talented job seekers with job postings that aren't designed with inclusivity in mind. Inclusive job postings give employers access to wider talent pools by appealing to a broader range of talent.

Want to learn more? Based on our experience working with employers engaging autistic and neurodivergent talent, we created a free tip sheet with practical and actionable steps to creating inclusive job postings.

Throughout our "Unmasking Autism," we have been looking at autism from the perspectives of our colleagues, Tonie and Jean-Julien. We were pleased with the response to our request to send us uncomfortable questions people had about autism, and Tonie and Jean-Julien brought not only their experience working with our colleagues but also their own lived experience as autistic neuroinclusion professionals. We have explored the language of autism, disclosure, masking, social communication, and the challenges autistic people face at work. In this final instalment, we wanted to allow them to tell us what they hoped people would ask and what they would take away from our recent event and this series. Read more in our last post.

🌟Celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM)! 🌟

At auticon Canada, we're proud to champion the value of neurodiverse teams. We know that diversity of thought and experience leads to strong, innovative teams, and we're committed to creating work environments where everyone can thrive. Small accommodations can have a significant impact. These adjustments make a difference, whether it's flexible work practices, sensory-friendly options, or encouraging unique communication styles. We do this every day, and it's at the heart of our mission to foster neuroinclusion. It's important to note that not all autistic people identify as having a disability, but many do, and both perspectives are valid and respected.
