SOS Safety Magazine

SOS Safety Magazine SOS Safety Magazine is a resource for youth, parents, and educators. *We are not a news outlet

The SOS Safety Magazine is an essential resource for families across Canada and is designed to enhance the important skills on safety needed in today’s communities. The resource has been designed to make it not only educational but also takes a fun approach to teaching families how to deal with everyday incidents. Our online platform is designed to further our reach in helping families across the

nation tackle the difficult decisions they face in their everyday lives. Topics include bullying, cyber bullying, peer pressure, teen su***de, dealing with teen pregnancy, mental illness, family wellness, and much more. In a time where we are faced with so many choices, sometimes the decisions youth face may be difficult. Some of their decisions may be influenced by media or peer pressure. Others may trust too much when in reality, not everyone or every incident turns out the way we expect it to. Our goal is to reduce the risk and add the prevention to daily situations our youth may face. We want to reach out with words of advice and prevention to youth across Canada. We also provide links to wonderful organizations such as the Kids Help Line, AADAC, Saffron, and many more.

As Mental Health Month comes to a close, we celebrate the fact that prioritizing our minds doesn't end on a calendar—it is a lifelong commitment to showing up for ourselves and our community every day. 💚

Throughout May, conversations across Canada helped raise awareness, reduce stigma, and highlight the importance of connection, compassion, and support. But the work doesn’t stop here.

Never underestimate the power of checking in, listening without judgment, and reaching out for help. These aren't just small actions, because they are the very things that make a profound, lasting difference.

A thank you to all the organizations, educators, health professionals, and communities for continuing to support mental wellness year-round.

Let’s keep the conversation going beyond May. 💬

"I smashed my kid's Xbox. It didn't solve anything"

One parent thought destroying the console would solve the problem. Instead, it revealed something much deeper about how modern games affect the brain, behaviour, sleep, motivation, and emotional regulation in teens.

From dopamine-driven reward systems to social pressure and late-night gaming loops, this story explores why some kids struggle to simply “log off," and what parents can do instead of turning to punishment alone.

Lupus remains a deeply misunderstood and often invisible illness that impacts thousands of Canadians every day 💜

As we continue through Lupus Awareness Month, we’re joining the conversation to highlight the need for:
💜 Better public understanding of lupus
💜 Fair and timely access to care and treatment
💜 Ongoing research to improve outcomes and find a cure

Raising awareness is a step toward better support, earlier diagnosis, and a stronger future for those living with lupus in Canada.

“The toll of these offences is immense. The ripples are wide and still widening,” a Saskatchewan judge said during sentencing after a teen admitted to setting a fellow student on fire inside a high school hallway.

What began as conflict between two teens escalated into one of Canada’s most disturbing school violence cases, and it’s raising larger questions about bullying, mental health, peer dynamics, and how unresolved conflict can spiral over time.

From cyberbullying and social exclusion to emotional isolation and warning signs often missed, our latest article explores the deeper realities behind bullying in Canada and why early intervention matters more than ever.
