SALC is the one conference built entirely for outdoor lighting. Utilities, municipalities, DOTs and engineering firms come together for training, technical sessions and a full exhibit hall — with up to 18 CEU credits on offer. It’s where the people who keep streets lit compare notes. We’ll be at Booth #219.

Youth don't just inherit our streets. They're already changing them.

In Edmonton, three youth ambassadors compared near-misses and speed compliance across several school zones, then presented their findings to school administration and the City. A flashing pedestrian crossing signal now stands at the school's main crossing.

In Toronto, a member of Parachute's Canadian Youth Road Safety Council wrote to the mayor and a local councillor about an unsafe intersection near an elementary school. A three-way stop has since been added.

Want to start? Parachute's new Youth Road Safety Advocacy Toolkit walks young people through every step, from spotting an issue to reaching decision makers.

Thank you to Parachute for championing young voices this week.

Speed is the difference between a close call and a fatality.

A pedestrian hit at 50 km/h is about six times more likely to die than one hit at 30 km/h, and speeding plays a role in one in four fatal crashes in Canada.

We know what works: lower limits, traffic calming, street design and automated speed enforcement, which has been shown to cut speeding in school zones by 45%.

This Canadian Youth Road Safety Week, we're backing Parachute's call for safer speeds where young people walk, bike and wait for the bus.
