EVACUATION ALERT ISSUED - FAIRMONT CREEK (posted: May 30, 2026 10:15pm)

The RDEK has issued an Evacuation ALERT for 97 properties, including multiple stratas and campsites along Fairmont Creek in the Fairmont area following sustained rainfall throughout the past few hours.

The Evacuation ALERT includes the following:
• ALL PROPERTIES ON FOX PL
• ALL PROPERTIES ON WILDER LOOP RD
• ALL PROPERTIES ON FAIRMONT CREEK RD
• 5264, 5268, 5272, 5276, 5280, 5284 COLUMBIA RIVER RD
• ALL UNITS ON 5201 FAIRWAY DR
• ALL UNITS ON 5150 FAIRWAY DR
• 5225 FAIRMONT RESORT RD

The purpose of an alert is to ensure people are aware of the potential danger in their area and take steps to prepare to leave on a moment’s notice should an evacuation order be issued.

The Fairmont Weather Station received approximately 17mm of rain within the past five hours, which is substantial for this area. While Fairmont Creek has not overtopped its banks at this time, the upper debris traps are filling with debris. With more rainfall in the forecast this week, there is the potential for additional sedimentation, and as a result, debris flooding or a debris flow.

PSA: Help Us Kill the Noise on Your Internet Line

Over the last few months, some customers have seen random slowdowns and drops. We’ve tracked this to “noise” on the coax cable network that carries your internet service. That noise makes it harder for modems to stay locked in, which can knock people offline or cause buffering and drops in service.

The outlet in the photo is a coax wall plate. You may have one or several of these in your home, sometimes in different styles. Years ago they were used for analog cable TV, over‑the‑air TV, AM/FM radio tuners, and even satellite receivers. Today, that same coax is used almost entirely for internet data.

Here’s the problem: many older devices that are still plugged into those coax outlets can leak unwanted signals back into the network. That “noise” doesn’t just affect you – it can impact your neighbors in the same area as well.

Here’s how you can help clean things up:

If you have a TV connected directly from the wall with a coax cable (no working cable box), please disconnect that coax cable.

If you have an old stereo or radio tuner connected to the wall with coax, please disconnect it.

If you have an old satellite receiver that hasn’t worked in years, please disconnect its coax from the wall.

If you have working cable TV boxes from your current provider, you can leave those connected. If you have old, unused cable boxes that no longer work, please disconnect their coax cables too.

These small changes at home can remove a lot of noise from the cable plant and help make your internet connection – and your neighbors' – more stable and reliable.

Thanks for helping us keep the network clean!
