Four weeks of thinking about a contractors business systems.

Here's the thing I actually think.

Making more money is the wrong goal for most small contractors. Not because ambition is bad. Because it's the wrong diagnosis.

The contractors I spoke to weren't losing because they were undercharging. They were losing because money was leaking out in ways they couldn't see clearly enough to fix. Receipts that never made it to an invoice. Jobs billed late because the paperwork piled up. QuickBooks that didn't match reality because syncing it was too much friction at the end of a long week.

You can have perfect pricing templates and still lose money that way.
The contractor software market sells upside. More revenue. Better margins. Scale your business.

What most small contractors actually need is to stop the bleed. Capture what they earned. Get paid for the work they already did. This quickly give the insight on job profitability and ability to price jobs better.

Three weeks into thinking about that systematic approach to business.

Here's what nobody says out loud about the contractors market.
There's a whole industry built around telling contractors they're not running their business properly. Courses. Programs. Coaches. PDFs. All pointing at the same thing — you're undercharging, you're disorganised, you need systems, you need to think like a CEO.

Some of that is true. Some of it is just a good way to sell something to someone who's already stretched.

The contractors I spoke to before building Craeftig weren't failing because they lacked ambition. They were failing at admin because admin is genuinely hard to do well from a phone, on site, between jobs, when you're also the one doing the work.
That's not a mindset problem. That's a tooling problem.
