Canada’s economy exceeded expectations in November, and likely saw fourth quarter growth, according to Statistics Canada on Wednesday. November's 0.2% GDP growth breaks a three-month streak of basically no growth, boosted by agriculture, mining and construction. If the agency’s preliminary estimate of 1.2% annualized fourth quarter growth holds when the final numbers come out next month, it will mean the economy avoided a technical recession. The Bank of Canada doesn’t think a recession is in the cards, but believes there could be small contractions along the way.
