Why Don’t We Sell “Pulled Original” iPhone Screens?

In phone repair, we’re often asked: “Do you have an original Apple screen?”

Here’s how we currently approach it at 3C-Easy Markham.

If you specifically want a brand-new genuine Apple display, we normally recommend going directly to Apple. If genuine Apple is your priority, the official channel offers the most complete verification, configuration and after-sales support.

We also do not sell or install used/pulled parts or refurbished original screens.

A pulled screen may indeed have been manufactured by Apple, but it is still a used part. Its usage history, age and previous repair history may not always be fully known. Refurbished original screens may also have had the glass, frame or other components replaced.

For screen repairs, our main focus is on carefully selected and graded aftermarket replacement displays, including options such as LCD, Hard OLED and Soft OLED depending on the model. Different grades offer different levels of display quality, touch response, construction and pricing.

We also carry brand-new genuine Apple batteries, and certain other genuine Apple parts—such as front or rear cameras—can be specially ordered for compatible models.

In short:

• Brand-new genuine Apple screen → We recommend Apple
• Genuine Apple battery → Available from us
• Other genuine Apple parts → Special order available on selected models
• Used/pulled parts → We don’t use them
• Refurbished original screens → We don’t use them

Samsung A14: No Speaker Sound — Then Charging Stopped Too

This Samsung A14 came in with a fairly simple complaint: the phone was working normally, but the speaker suddenly had no sound.

At first, the issue appeared to be related to the charging sub-board. After replacing it, the speaker started working again.

However, the repair didn’t hold for long.

Shortly afterward, the speaker stopped working again — and charging stopped as well.

At that point, we knew the problem was deeper than the charging sub-board itself.

After reopening the phone and inspecting the connection more closely, we found that the main-board connector had been completely damaged, causing unstable contact between the motherboard and charging sub-board.

That explained why the phone could briefly recover after replacing the sub-board, then fail again.

After replacing the damaged connector:

* Speaker function returned to normal
* Charging returned to normal
* The intermittent issue was fully resolved

This is a good example of why phone repair is not always about replacing the part that seems most obvious.

Sometimes the visible symptom points in the right direction, but the real failure is somewhere along the connection path.

Accurate diagnosis matters just as much as the replacement itself.

Why We Now Check iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max Logs Before Repair

Recently, there has been discussion in the repair industry about some iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max devices showing repeated reboots and frequent ResetCounter logs. Some reports even link this to possible A16 chip issues.

At this time, there is not enough reliable public evidence to confirm that a specific batch of A16 chips is defective, and it would be incorrect to assume that a screen or battery replacement can directly damage the CPU.

However, repeated reboot-related logs can still be an important warning sign.

Before disassembling an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max, we now check:

Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Analytics Data

We look for repeated entries such as:

* ResetCounter
* panic-full
* watchdog
* SystemMemoryReset

One or two isolated logs may not mean much. But if the same type of log appears repeatedly within a short period, especially when the customer has already noticed random restarts or shutdowns, the device may already have an underlying system or hardware instability.

This matters because a phone can have a developing issue before repair, only for the problem to become more obvious afterward. Without checking first, it can easily look like the repair itself caused the failure.

Important: ResetCounter does not automatically mean the A16 chip is defective. It is only one diagnostic clue. The actual cause still needs to be evaluated together with the phone’s symptoms, panic logs, boot information, and further hardware testing.

For us, this extra check is not about avoiding responsibility. It is about understanding and documenting the device’s condition before any repair begins.

Sometimes the most important part of a repair happens before the phone is even opened.

PS5 Won’t Turn On — And the PSU Wasn’t the Only Problem

This PS5 came in completely unresponsive. Pressing the power button did nothing.

After testing, we confirmed that the power supply unit (PSU) had no output and needed to be replaced.

But once the console was opened up, we found two additional issues:

1. Cracked HDMI port
As shown in the photo, the HDMI port was visibly damaged and partially cracked. This is a fairly common PS5 repair issue, especially when the console is moved frequently, the cable is pulled, or the HDMI cable is inserted at an angle.

2. Dried and uneven liquid metal
The PS5 uses liquid metal as part of its cooling system. Over time, it can become unevenly distributed and appear dried out in certain areas, reducing proper contact and potentially affecting thermal performance.

During the repair, we replaced the faulty PSU, repaired the HDMI port, and cleaned and reapplied the liquid metal.

A couple of simple tips for PS5 owners:

* Keep the console horizontal when possible. This may help reduce liquid metal from pooling heavily toward one side over time.
* Avoid excessive movement or shaking. Always unplug the HDMI and power cables before moving the console, and avoid letting connected cables pull on the ports.

Sometimes a console comes in for one obvious failure, but once it is properly disassembled and inspected, other developing problems become visible too.

That’s why a proper repair should involve more than simply replacing the first failed part — a full internal inspection matters as well.

Lithium-ion batteries power our phones, tablets, power banks, e-bikes and many other everyday devices. They’re generally safe when used properly, but damaged, swollen or overheated batteries can become a serious hazard.

A few simple rules:

🔋 Stop using a battery if it swells or pushes the screen/back cover outward.
🔥 Stop immediately if the device becomes unusually hot, smells strange or starts smoking.
🛏️ Avoid charging under pillows or blankets.
🔌 Use reliable chargers and cables.
🗑️ Never throw lithium batteries into regular garbage.

At 3C-Easy Markham, removed and swollen batteries are kept separate, handled carefully and sent through proper recycling channels.

Most customers never see this part of a repair, but we believe proper service includes what happens to the battery after it leaves your phone.

Use safely. Replace early. Recycle responsibly.

Your phone doesn’t need “maintenance” like a car — but the same idea still applies.

I once told my mechanic:

“The point of maintenance isn’t to make sure the car never breaks. It’s to reduce the chance that it breaks when I’m out and actually need it.”

The same principle applies surprisingly well to smartphones.

With cars, we’re comfortable replacing oil, coolant, brake fluid, filters and other wear items before they cause a breakdown.

With phones, the mentality is often the opposite:

“It still works, so I’ll leave it alone.”

To be clear, we do not recommend opening a perfectly functioning phone just for routine maintenance. In fact, unnecessary disassembly can introduce its own risks.

But there are warning signs worth paying attention to:

• A battery that drains unusually fast or causes unexpected shutdowns
• A charging port that only works at certain angles
• A back cover beginning to lift, which may indicate battery swelling
• A screen that occasionally flickers, shows lines, or cuts out
• Important photos and data that have never been properly backed up

Any of these may seem manageable today.

The real problem is when the device finally fails at the worst possible time — while travelling, navigating, working, receiving authentication codes, or accessing important information.

That’s what preventive phone care really means to us.

Not replacing parts that don’t need replacing.

Not repairing things that aren’t broken.

Simply:

Back up important data.
Pay attention to warning signs.
Address small problems before they become major ones.

Machines eventually fail.

Good maintenance doesn’t make them immortal.

It simply gives you a better chance of choosing when to deal with the problem — instead of letting the device choose for you.

A Repair Can Look Great Outside — But What About Inside?

When most people pick up a repaired phone, the first things they notice are the outside.

Is the back glass sitting properly?
Are the edges clean?
Does everything work normally?

Those things matter — but some parts of repair quality can only be seen the next time the phone is opened.

This phone is a good example.

From the outside, there may have been nothing obviously wrong. But once opened, we found a significant amount of old adhesive and residue left around the rear housing, wireless charging coil, and surrounding components.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the phone will fail right away. It may continue working normally for a long time.

The issue is what happens the next time it needs repair.

A phone has very limited internal space. Around those areas are charging components, cameras, flex cables and other delicate parts. Excess adhesive and leftover material can make future disassembly more difficult, require additional cleaning, and increase the care needed to avoid damaging nearby components.

That’s why repair quality isn’t only about how good the phone looks when the job is finished.

Proper cleaning, component placement and internal preparation are also part of the repair — even though the customer may never see them.

Of course, every device and previous repair is different, and one photo alone doesn’t tell the entire story.

The takeaway is simply this:

Some of the most important repair details are hidden from view — until the phone needs to be opened again.

A little more understanding of what happens inside your device can help you make a more informed repair decision.

Used Original Parts / Donor Phones: Why Source Matters

“Used original” parts can be a great repair option — but being original is only part of the story.

The other question is: where did the donor phone come from?

Damaged or locked phones can sometimes be purchased cheaply and dismantled for screens, cameras and other components. When the device has a legitimate, documented source, there is nothing inherently wrong with reusing those parts.

The concern is when ownership or origin cannot reasonably be verified.

Working in Pacific Mall, we have seen people going from store to store urgently searching for missing phones. We never want to discover that a component we purchased came from a device someone was still trying to recover.

Unknown history can also mean unknown liquid exposure, drops, previous repairs or other hidden damage.

That is why we are cautious about anonymously sourced donor phones.

“Original” tells you what the part is.
“Source” tells you where it came from.
Both matter.

At 3C-Easy Markham, we would rather pay more for accountable sourcing than save money through a supply chain we cannot confidently stand behind.

Samsung S22 / S23 / S24 — Signal Keeps Dropping?

Does your Samsung phone sometimes have perfectly normal signal, then suddenly show weak signal or No Service?

We’ve encountered this type of issue on the Samsung Galaxy S22, S23 and S24 series, and one possible cause is surprisingly small: a damaged antenna connector on the mainboard.

The photo shows an actual S22 Ultra we inspected. The antenna connector had been physically damaged, resulting in intermittent cellular signal.

Common symptoms can include:

📶 Signal randomly becoming weak or disappearing
📵 Intermittent “No Service”
📞 Calls unexpectedly dropping
✈️ Signal temporarily returning after toggling Airplane Mode
📱 A SIM card that works normally in another phone

Because the problem can come and go, it may initially look like a carrier, SIM card or software issue.

The good news is that a damaged connector doesn’t necessarily mean the entire mainboard needs to be replaced. Depending on the condition of the connector, solder pads and surrounding circuitry, microsoldering repair may be possible.

However, intermittent signal can have many different causes, including the SIM card, antenna cables, antenna assemblies, mainboard circuitry or cellular network itself.

That’s why we recommend diagnosing the actual fault before replacing parts.

Find the problem first. Repair what actually needs to be repaired.
