My latest blog post. Get tens of digital outputs from a single Arduino Uno using shift register integrated circuits and serial communication.

What if we needed tens or even hundreds of digital outputs from a single Arduino Uno? It can be done using digital electronic integrated circuits called shift registers along with a technique calle…

In the seven-segment display post, we drove the display directly from the Arduino's digital output pins. 12 digital output pins were required. In my next post, I will show how to use shift registers (74HC595) to drive the display using only 3 digital output pins.

I made an interesting find while researching thermistor characteristics: to get the largest voltage range using a voltage divider to measure the resistance across a thermistor, make the value of the dividing resistance the square root of the product of the smallest and largest thermistor resistance value for the required range.

Rdivider = sqrt(Rhigh*Rlow)

In this post, I explain how I determined the type of thermal sensor was used in a thermometer probe, describe how to read temperature from it on an Arduino and report back to a PC.

In this post, I explain how I determined the type of sensor used within my cooking timer/thermometer probe. I then describe a small circuit and Arduino program I devised to measure temperatures usi…

Just found an old temperature probe from a long gone kitchen timer/thermometer. My next blog post will be on figuring out what type of it is and using it to build a food using an microcontroller.

Many projects require the ability to display values. Until now, we have used the Serial library to display information on the computer connected to the Arduino. Particularly, in the Sensing Temperature and Humidity post, we used the Serial library to display temperature and humidity on the IDE's Serial Monitor window. In this post, we will use a four digit seven-segment display…...

Many projects require the ability to display values. In this post, we will use a four digit seven-segment display to show numbers directly from the Arduino micro-controller.
