Microsoft Advertising is updating its UTM auto-tagging starting September 2, 2026.

If you are running Microsoft Ads, here is what is changing: Campaign formats like Search, Audience, Shopping, and Performance Max will now be reported separately in your analytics platform instead of being grouped together under "Paid Search".

The good news β€” no action is required. If you are already using UTM auto-tagging, the updated tags will be applied automatically.

This means more accurate performance reporting and clearer budget decisions going forward. A small but useful change for anyone who wants a better view of what is actually working across their campaigns.
