Shoebox Studio is an independently owned photograph and document restoration service for museums and archives. Based in Ottawa, Shoebox is surrounded by some of Canada’s largest and most diverse museum collections. Founder Sam Hopkins has strong roots in the heritage field having worked closely with archaeologists, conservators, and museum professionals in Canada and Europe. He has combined his pa

ssion for material culture and digital design to help institutions create more effective interpretations of their archival material. The deterioration of photographs and documents is inevitable and, in most cases, irreversible. Digital restoration can fill areas of loss, erase scratches and folds, and bring back colour damaged by UV exposure. Please contact us to discuss how we can digitally restore your historical photographs and documents to their original splendour.

Step into the shoot room at 📸

This wall is one of our favourites, a series of blown-up vintage camera ads that add history, nostalgia, and personality to the space.

It’s a great reminder that there’s really no limit to what we can print. Whether it’s art, archives, or something uniquely you, the studio walls are a place to showcase your story. ✨

More corners of the studio coming soon.

The studio tour continues! 💫

This is a double shoutout to and

Michael has made us this personalized wall easel that we use daily for securing original artworks as we colour-correct files at the desk.

But today it’s holding Christine’s debut photobook “REQUIEM” which includes images from her residencies at the Geological Survey of Canada, the Canadian Museum of Nature, and the Natural History Museum in England. Highly recommend picking up a copy from .

It’s always inspiring to see filled with the work of artists we admire and collaborate with.

Come on in to 👋
We’re continuing our little studio tour, this wall sits across from our work table, a daily reminder of the artists we get to collaborate with as we print and create together.

We love being able to showcase our clients’ work right here in the space. Each piece highlights the range of archival papers we use and the precision we strive for in every fine art print and photo reproduction. ✨
