I am offering my services as your mobile Mac man for Powell River, Campbell River, Comox , Sechelt and Parksville. Your slowing Macs can easily be sped up, even far beyond their former glory! My name is Jurgen Koppen, I am doing house calls with my mobile Mac man upgrade service, for Sunshine Coast and Mid Island. There is 95% chance that your Mac slows down ONLY because just one small component,

the aging storage device, i.e: HDD ( Hard Disc Drive) is failing. It is easy and very cost-effective to replace the HDD with a 5x faster modern SSD (Solid State Drive). As an hobbyist/enthusiast I can do these jobs, including overall diagnostics and OS upgrades even for unsupported Macs. I also repair other issues such as: removing dust in the cooling system, which causes excessive heat, resulting in fried processors, adding more RAM if desired, replace screens, ix loose hinges, replace batteries, do OS upgrades, and even some logic board component repairs, such as replacing capacitors gone bad. Most jobs cost approx. $120-$200 (2hrs for most laptops, 3.5hrs for iMacs)+ cost of a new SSD and/or other parts. Save your money and get another 8-10 years out of your current and still very solid Mac. Or check my inventory for good used, and fast/upgraded Macs from $400 for the older ones, up to $1600 for the 2015 professional studio powerhouses.

iCloud is for sharing your Mac's content over multiple devices; it is not a suitable backup solution, imho. If used as a backup, it will take up a lot of space on your SSD, because it backs up itself again onto your local drive, and causes your SSD to become way too full too early. I see this all the time, the system is misunderstood by many people. Use an external drive as a backup, and save yourself the bewilderment of trying to figure out what happened to your SSD space, and what those mysterious System files are: they are backups of backups!

I work out of my home in Powell River and come to do house calls in the Comox Valley and CR every Wednesday. I look at issues and pick up and drop off Macs. If you are on the Island, I can add you to my to-do list for any Wednesday that might work for you.

I would need an address, a phone # and the best time to pick it up on a Wednesday. I will do the diagnostics for free, tell you your options and the cost of that work and return it on the next Wednesday. I can provide a loaner for the week I have your machine if needed.

Companies these days, especially tech companies, want us to buy every new model of phone, laptop and fancy new touch screen but when you love what you've got...
