Surface screen crack with no drop and no bump? Nine times out of ten, the culprit is the battery. As it ages it can swell, and because Surface glass is so thin, it cracks before you ever see a bulge. If that has already happened, the battery and screen need replacing together, or the new glass will crack too.

Tip: if your Surface battery life has dropped off noticeably, have the battery checked before the screen pays the price.

From our workshop: when a Blue Screen means a bigger problem. 💻 A newer Asus laptop kept randomly Blue Screening during everyday use. We reproduced the crash and ran memory tests outside of Windows, which confirmed a faulty RAM chip.

The catch: the RAM was soldered directly to the motherboard, so it could not be replaced. The good news is that we recovered all of the customer's data before the laptop failed completely.

The lesson? If your computer keeps crashing, back up your files right away, and do not wait to get it tested.

"Here is my Apple employee number. My supervisor will call you back to confirm." 📞

Sounds legitimate, right? That is exactly the point.

Tech support scammers can be very convincing. They give out fake employee numbers, have a "supervisor" call you back, and do whatever it takes to appear real.

No matter what they tell you, never give anyone remote access to your computer unless you are 100% certain of who they are. Remember, Apple and Microsoft will never cold call you.

Sometimes a computer "dies on the bench" in the middle of testing. ⚠️ We have seen it happen. When a hard drive is failing, any moment could be the last time it is readable.

That is why, if we see signs of drive failure, we may recommend backing up your data as a precaution. But we always contact you first. Nothing is copied or backed up without your approval, and if you say no, we respect that completely.

No surprises. Just clear communication.

Quick question: how many copies of your important files do you have right now? 🤔

0⃣ Just the one on my computer
1⃣ One backup
2⃣ Two or more backups

If you answered zero or one, you are not alone, but you are taking a risk. The 3-2-1 rule recommends three copies in total: your original plus two backups, on two separate devices, with one kept offsite.

Tell us your answer in the comments! And if this could save a friend from losing their photos, feel free to share it.
