And still didn't lead anywhere.

Not because you said the wrong thing. Not because you weren't qualified. Not because you weren't impressive.

He came to us with a gap on his resume.

Two years.

He didn't try to hide it. Didn't dress it up with freelance projects or consulting work that wasn't really consulting work.

He just said
"I took care of my mother. She passed last spring. And now I'm ready to go back."

That was it.

No apology. No over-explanation. Just the truth of where he'd been and a quiet readiness for what came next.

We didn't ask him to reframe it. We didn't suggest better language for his LinkedIn headline.

We just said, "Tell us about the work you loved before you left."
His whole voice changed.
