Matthew Giffin Arts Artist, Designer, Illustrator, Musician, Writer and Entrepreneur. Matthew Giffin is a visual artist, musician and writer currently located in Southwest Ontario.

He began his career in NYC in the 1980's regularly exhibiting in the East Village and SoHo, represented by Helio Galleries. In the 90's he expanded his focus to include illustration. His work was published worldwide by the Los Angeles Times, Toronto Globe and Mail, Random House and others. After relocating to Toronto in the mid 90's he worked as senior art director for the Canadian Broadcasting Co

rporation. After leaving the CBC in 2006 he worked with Sir Paul McCartney and developed Storyvalues, an innovative online interactive learning resource used in schools in Canada and Australia.

‘An Edge of Innocence’, 44” x 44”, acrylic on treated wood panel.
Creating art is a hopeful activity. It pulls you into the moment — asks you to set down what you think you know. It’s the unknown speaking: “I am your friend. I am the place of possibility. I stand in quiet contrast to the loud voices insisting the world is exactly as it appears.”

This is a nostalgic look at the future, brought to life in the present — an edge of innocence, held up against the rather grim story we seem so determined to keep telling ourselves.

So… If someone were to ask me to draw a fusion/ reaction resulting in a sudden transcendental transference of positive energy resulting in the perpetual renewal of known structures this is what I would come up with. I don’t actually recall anyone asking for this though… 🇨🇦
