Ever had the courage, passion, and drive to chase your dreams and just go for it?

I had the pleasure of working with the lovely and inspiring Jordan Burch (check her out at on Insta at ), who took went from teen mom to self-made 7-figure business owner, mentor, and coach. She is unapologetically honest, authentic, and fearless.

Jordan was having trouble with her old website and posted in a Facebook group looking for help troubleshooting Wordpress issues. I don't know what came over me, but like Jordan, I became fearless. I sent her an unsolicited DM and took a shot pitching full brand identity, website copywriting, and a custom Showit website design. I mean, what's the worst that could have happened, right? 🤞🤞🤞

Well guess what? We clicked and she jumped - fearlessly, I might add. And I couldn't be more proud of the results and the small imprint I made on her business.

Okay, so I'm obsessing over the ridiculously talented Liana at , wishing I could go back and ask for a do-over of my wedding photos. She’s a New England-based, globally booked destination wedding photographer and I had the absolute pleasure to work on her rebrand, website copy, and website design.

Prior to starting her project, Liana completed her Brand Assignment where I saw repeated themes of timelessness and romanticism mixed with her editorial and fashion flair (she's been featured in British Vogue, Vigour, and Pump magazines!) When building her logos and brand palette, I was inspired by luxurious wedding stationary with delicate and feminine fonts and colours.

Real question from a real client: Is it better for me to invest in my website or paid ads? And if I've been asked this before, you might be wondering the same thing, too.

Are paid ads a good investment? Yes. Is your website a better investment? Hell yes. After all, traffic from paid ads is directed to your website. Here are the Top 5 ways your website can help your business:

1. First Impressions. Would you purchase a product from a website that did not reflect the image you have of the brand or was difficult to navigate? Probably not. The hard truth is that it takes 50 milliseconds for a user to form an opinion about your website and make a decision if they’ll stay or leave. Your website is often one of the first points of contact a potential customer has with your brand (you click on the IG Links to be redirected to a website, right?) Your website can create a positive image of your business and increase the likelihood of converting website visitors into paying clients.

2. Credibility. A well-designed website can establish your credibility and legitimacy. Customers are more likely to trust and do business with a company that has a professional website.

3. User Experience. A great website is easy to navigate and provides a well-planned, excellent user experience. Let's talk branding, why it's do damn important, and one easy strategy you can implement today. (Hint: It's more than "just" a logo!)

Your brand identity allows your business to be identified and remembered by your audience and includes all visual elements of your brand - from your logos and graphic elements through to your colour palette, font suite, and font guidelines.

So think of it this way. A friend brings you coffee in a yellow and brown take out cup and tells you it's Starbucks. You'd probably look at her and rightfully assume she's lying, right? Why is that? Well, quite simply, it's because their visual identity isn't consistent with your perceptions of the brand. If it were really from Starbucks, you'd get a white cup with their signature green mermaid emblem, enveloped in a craft-paper sleeve...I could go on, but you get where I'm going.

At first sight, you knew that it wasn't Starbucks. Because through consistent ex*****on of their brand identity, you'd be able to identify a Starbucks coffee in a fraction of a second just by looking at their signature cup.

So what does this mean for you? Well, as a , consistency is key. Once you've crafted your brand identity, be consistent with it. Your website should look like your client materials (like session guides and product selection forms), your business card and stationary, and your marketing materials (like mini session announcements). Take the extra five minutes to upload and use your brand palette and fonts. And no, it's not just to make your feed pretty. It's so that one day, you'll reach Starbucks-level success and have your audience recognize your brand in one quick glance.

Here’s some earth-shattering truth: Not everyone is your ideal client and you’re not everyone’s ideal product or service provider. And that’s okay. Your ideal client is not only someone who sees value in your products or services, but they will be loyal to your business and will recommend you to their friends.

The thing is, you can’t strategically market your product or service and land your dream clients if you don’t know who your target audience and ideal client is. But once you do, you’ll be able to identify their concerns and pain points, speak directly to them, and have your ideal client knowing that you are the right fit even before meeting you. Your Ideal Client Avatar (ICA) will provide a roadmap for how to reach your dream clients and tailor your marketing strategies, including your Brand Identity and Website Design.

Building your ICA is so valuable because similar audiences react and respond in similar ways. Think of you and your best friend, for example. You’re probably a similar age, have a similar income level, personalty, interests, and social habits, right? A labour of love. 2,368,324 hours to be exact. (Or so it feels.)

As a creative, we spend hours criticizing our work in a persuit of perfection - an ideal that we place on ourselves. I knew this, but it still weighed on me. The amount of time I spent (ahem, wasted!) on changes that literally no one but me would notice is mind boggling.

Through the process, I came to respect that there is no such thing as perfection and no matter how hard we try, nothing is ever perfect. I learned that something is better is nothing and sometimes we need to light a fire under our ass to get s**t done.

My motivation? I was featured on a Podcast, Live Creatively with my friend Megan Sjuts. We recorded it about a month ago and were talking about imposter syndrome and how to overcome it. As soon as we stopped recording, I had a lightbulb moment. My persuit of perfection was mixed with a sprinkle of imposter syndrome. I was giving her audience the advice I needed in that exact moment.

What did I do? I accepted that perfection does not exist and that my limiting beliefs were holding be back. I set a hard deadline to launch. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. No more excuses.

And guess what? I did it.

Well, after almost two years, I figured it‘s about damn time to hop on the social media train. There is something that is so vulnerable about your first post, opening up to the world, and sharing your story. Here is goes:

A few short years ago, I was working for industry-leading cosmetic and skincare companies. I was travelling a ton - business, not pleasure - and felt like I was living out of a suitcase. But I always felt like there was something more. So, after we had our second babe, I left the corporate world behind to focus on our family and started a side hustle photography business so I wasn't "just" a SAHM. (And yes, air quotes around "just" are totally deserved. I'm sure other SAHMs will agree that it is the one of the hardest jobs you'll ever have.)

For a lot of people, Covid was rough - homeschooling my littles, isolation, and what felt like never-ending lockdowns. My photography business was closed for about 8-months. But in many ways, Covid was also a blessing. It gave me time to refocus and figure out what was next in terms of life and career.

With my youngest starting kindergarten, it didn't jive with the nature of photography being primarily evenings and weekends. I was craving balance. I stumbled across some amazing online design courses and took a chance and decided to teach myself the skills I wanted to learn.

I started my business about 18-months ago, focusing my energies on client projects. But, it's my turn now.

My name is Bree Grenier, founder of Marque Creative Studio. I help creative entrepreneurs make their brand more memorable and more profitable with strategic brand and website design.

Phew. That was big. Almost like saying (or typing it) makes it really real, ya know?
