Jared and Fateme are on the ground this week at the Provincial Conference 👋

This is our 4th time attending, and our first time as a sponsor, which makes this one extra special for us.

Last night, we had the chance to tour the St. Albert Food Bank & Community Village, an incredible space, and share some great cocktails and even better conversations with folks from across the network.

Today the conference officially kicks off, and we’re looking forward to new conversations, reconnecting with familiar faces, and continuing to learn how food banks are adapting and growing.

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Resilience, Growing Forward,” really resonates. It’s inspiring to see the work happening across Alberta.

🚀 Big announcement from the FoodCopia team…

We’re proud to officially announce a partnership with the Canadian Space Agency to launch the world’s first Lunar Food Bank 🌕

As space exploration ramps up, we started asking a simple question — if we’re going to the Moon (and eventually Mars), what happens to food systems?

Food insecurity doesn’t magically disappear just because you leave Earth.
So we figured… why not get ahead of it.

We’ve been adapting FoodCopia to handle things like:
✔ Zero-gravity inventory (no more “lost in the back of the warehouse”)
✔ Freeze-dried food with 10+ year shelf life
✔ Drone delivery across lunar terrain
✔ Real-time Earth ↔ Moon inventory sync

And yes… we’ve already had some “interest” from the private space sector.

With Elon always looking for cost savings — and ways to pass expenses onto everyday people — there’s a decent chance crews will just stop by the Lunar Food Bank instead of bringing their own food 😅

Big things are happening in Virginia!

We’re proud to be working with the Loudoun Education Foundation in Loudoun County, VA — an organization doing incredible work to support students and teachers through educational programs, classroom resources, and initiatives that strengthen the entire school community.

As part of their impact, they also coordinate food distribution across 20+ schools — and that’s where FoodCopia comes in.

With FoodCopia, their team is now able to:
• Seamlessly receive and manage orders from dozens of schools
• Keep real-time visibility on inventory
• Ensure food is distributed where it’s needed most

Last week we spent several days driving across Alberta meeting with food banks and food organizations that are doing incredible work in their communities.

We had the chance to visit with:
• Kevin Luini — Okotoks Food Bank Association
• Neil Heaton — Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge
• Lynn Gofflot, Ken, and Sundae — Community Kitchen Program of Calgary
• Patrick Newman — Calgary Drop In & Rehab Centre Society
• Michael Pasma, MBA — formerly with the Calgary Food Bank
• Mitch Thomson — Red Deer Food Bank Society
• Will Martin and Christie Lavan — Food Banks Alberta

Every organization we met with approaches food security a little differently, but they all share the same goal: making sure people in their communities have access to the food they need.

One of the things we hear often in this space is: “When you’ve seen one food bank… you’ve seen one food bank.” After this trip, that statement feels more true than ever. Each operation has its own processes, challenges, and strengths.

Trips like this are incredibly valuable for us as we continue building FoodCopia. The conversations, feedback, and insights from the people doing the work on the ground help shape how the platform evolves.

A huge thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to meet with us and share their experiences. We really appreciate the openness and the willingness to collaborate.

Sorting Isn’t an Afterthought.

We want to start by saying thank you to the food banks and partner organizations we’ve been working with across Canada and the U.S.

This release was built in close collaboration with you. Over the weeks leading up to the holidays, our team was working around the clock, testing, refining, and shipping improvements in real time — often while staying in constant contact with food bank staff who were right in the middle of their busiest season. Your feedback, patience, and honesty directly shaped what FoodCopia is today.

We quietly launched a major FoodCopia update just before the Christmas holidays, and it’s easily the biggest leap forward since the platform began. Internally, it’s been hard not to call this FoodCopia 2.0.
