In partnership with the Saskatoon Sexual Assault & Information Centre, we are offering Supporting Survivors of Sexualized Violence Training™ on June 24, a deeply thoughtful, trauma-informed program created by SSAIC to help people respond to disclosures of sexualized violence with empathy, confidence, and care.
Survivors often disclose to friends, family members, coworkers, educators, service providers, and community members, not just therapists. This training acknowledges that reality and focuses on equipping everyday people and professionals with the knowledge, language, and skills needed to offer support that is safe, respectful, and does not cause further harm. It is not about becoming a trauma therapist, but about showing up in the ways that truly matter.
Through a blend of lecture, small group discussion, and opportunities to practice new skills, participants will explore:
➡️ A deeper understanding of sexualized violence and its impacts on individuals and communities
➡️ How r**e myths and victim-blaming shape survivor experiences
➡️ Trauma-informed communication and nervous system awareness
➡️ Survivor-centred support approaches
➡️ How to connect survivors to appropriate next steps and resources
This training is for:
➡️ Professionals working with survivors (social services, education, healthcare, justice, community organizations)
➡️ Volunteers and advocates
➡️ Friends, family members, and partners of survivors
➡️ Survivors who want to better understand trauma responses and support others
➡️ Anyone who wants to be a safer, more informed, and more supportive person
This work matters. Creating safer spaces starts with understanding, compassion, and a willingness to learn. We are grateful to SSAIC for their leadership and care in this work, and we invite our community to join us in strengthening how we support survivors.
All proceeds are donated to SSAIC to support their services and programs.
