The difference may not look dramatic at first, but the cleaning process matters.
On the left, you’re seeing a quick surface clean using a single Q-Tip and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. While this may remove some of the visible residue, it can leave behind oxidized material that continues to cause problems.
On the right, we use a more thorough approach to cleaning, carefully working the heatsink until we are no longer picking up black residue.
This level of cleaning takes more time and attention to detail, but it’s important when addressing overheating and poor thermal performance. Leaving oxidized residue behind can contribute to the problem returning much sooner.
