DISCORD OFFICIALLY BANNED 🇵🇭

Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Executive Director Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso confirmed that Discord has been banned in the Philippines, following a blocking order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

According to the CICC, Discord’s response did not provide the commitments authorities required, including the appointment of a Philippine representative, a direct coordination channel with government agencies, and an information-sharing mechanism.

The directive follows concerns over online platforms being used to allegedly spread violent extremist content and ideologies and exploit minors, particularly following school shootings involving Banga National High School, a school in Tacloban City, and Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

Discord and Reddit had earlier been given 24 hours to establish a Philippine presence or designate a resident agent or local representative who could coordinate directly with authorities. Officials also sought stronger safety, age-verification, rapid-response, and child-protection measures.

The CICC later clarified that an extension granted to Reddit did not apply to Discord, pending direct discussions and concrete commitments from the messaging platform.

For now, Discord remains under the government-ordered block while Philippine authorities await compliance with their requirements.
