It was lovely seeing everyone last week at our holiday lunch!

Although this time of year feels a little hectic, the holidays are the perfect excuse to get together, have some good food, and share many laughs.

Throughout the year – and especially in December, as deadlines are coming up fast – it’s easy to get in work mode and not come up for air. And for those of us that work remotely, it can be especially stressful and isolating if we do not make the time to chat with our coworkers and foster those social relationships, which have the opportunity to really flourish during the holidays with fun celebrations.

I encourage you to make the time this holiday season. Before offices close, make sure you see your coworkers, wish everyone well, and create some new memories!

Do you stay in touch with past employees? Do you ever consider bringing them back? I’d like to share my story about Sabah, one of our amazing team members, who returned to us a couple of years ago, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Sabah first joined us when she moved to Canada from Ireland. She was a fantastic addition to the team, but at the time, we were an in-office company, and the long commute became too much after she moved to the west end. She decided to pursue other opportunities, and we were sad to see her go.

Fast forward a few years, and we transitioned into a fully remote company. Sabah was one of the first people I thought of to build this new team, so I reached out, and it turned out the timing – and the flexibility – was perfect for her! She came back, and it was as if she’d never left.

What I’ve learned is that staying connected with former employees can be a powerful strategy. People grow and gain experience elsewhere, but if they were great to work with the first time, they’ll likely be even better when they return.

There’s something special about working with someone who’s been by your side for almost your entire career.

Liz Harman and I met at our first professional job at a company called Knowledge Alliance. Over the years, we moved together to different organizations, growing and evolving as professionals and as friends. When I started my own business, it only made sense for us to continue working together.

Having someone like Liz on my team has been a game-changer. We’ve built a level of trust and understanding that you just can’t manufacture overnight. We know each other’s strengths, can anticipate each other’s moves, and there’s an unspoken sense of loyalty that makes our collaboration seamless.

In today’s fast-moving work environment, we often focus on new connections, networking, and expanding our circles. But there’s something to be said for the relationships you’ve built over the years—the ones that stand the test of time and help you grow both professionally and personally.

Working remotely means seeing everyone in person is worthy of a selfie! We had a great time working in the same office for a change, catching up, and renewing the strong personal bond that has always helped our team thrive.
