It all started with a simple question: what sound would a laser make if it could speak?
We’re motivated by the desire to build a system where technology isn’t a set of effects, but an instrument for listening and responding to co-create within a living feedback loop.
The piece reverses the usual hierarchy (audio drives visuals) by starting with light as the initiator: Tom generates evolving laser patterns in TouchDesigner, and those visual attributes are translated into control data that produces and shapes sound.
Wawa then processes and transforms that sound in Ableton Live, and the resulting audio features feed back into TouchDesigner to modulate the laser system in return. The performance becomes a real-time dialogue where neither medium is “illustration” for the other.
