The future of 3D printing is about building complete, scalable workflows that make additive manufacturing practical for real production environments.

A recent industry article highlighted how robotics are being used to automate the finishing of 3D printed parts for defence applications, helping improve consistency, reduce manual labor, and support faster on-demand manufacturing. It is another strong sign that post-processing is becoming a major focus as additive manufacturing moves further into industrial use.

At Tempus 3D, we see this as part of a larger shift in the market. Industrial 3D printing is evolving from a powerful manufacturing tool into a more connected, reliable production ecosystem.

🚑 The future of orthopedic care is being shaped by additive manufacturing.

A Singapore-based innovator has developed a 4D-printed orthopedic cast that addresses many of the biggest frustrations of traditional casts — itching, sweating, discomfort, poor ventilation, and even the inability to get wet.

Using smart thermoplastic materials, these casts can be heated, molded directly to the patient, and re-adjusted during treatment without needing a full replacement. Lightweight, breathable, waterproof, and reusable — it’s another powerful example of how advanced manufacturing is transforming healthcare.

At Tempus 3D, we love seeing how industrial 3D printing continues to move beyond prototyping into real-world, high-impact applications that improve lives and redefine what’s possible.

From medical innovation to industrial manufacturing, additive manufacturing is accelerating faster than ever — and we’re excited to be part of that journey.

Could 3D printing help treat high blood pressure in the future?

Researchers at Penn State have developed a 3D-printed hydrogel implant designed to help regulate blood pressure without medication. The soft, flexible implant uses bioelectronic signals to stimulate the body’s natural pressure-control system — and early results are very promising.

This is another exciting example of how additive manufacturing is transforming healthcare and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with advanced materials and precision engineering.

At Tempus 3D, we love sharing innovations that show the real-world impact of industrial 3D printing across industries.

🧠 3D Printing Is Personalizing Brain Medicine

Researchers at Pennsylvania State University have used 3D printing to create custom hydrogel brain electrodes — shaped directly from a patient's own MRI scan. Because every brain is unique, these electrodes are designed to perfectly match individual cortex folds, achieving superior adhesion and fit that one-size-fits-all devices simply can't.

The workflow is remarkable: MRI in the morning, a printed, patient-specific electrode ready by the afternoon. In testing across 21 brain models and 28-day animal trials, the electrodes showed no immune response and no signal degradation — a huge step forward for monitoring neurological conditions like neurodegenerative diseases.

This is exactly what makes 3D printing such a transformative technology — not just for aerospace or automotive, but for human health. The ability to go from scan to custom part in hours is a capability that is reshaping industries across the board.

At Tempus 3D, we're proud to be part of this revolution, bringing industrial-grade 3D printing solutions to Canadian businesses and beyond.
